Yes, 55 for me too (recorded 57 calls but I think I fudged a couple by forgetting to press one!)

Yes, 55 for me. I'm sitting as a passenger in a vehicle with nothing to do so I thought I'd use that time to keep going till I reached the maximum.

The page with the terms and conditions still shows 42 as the maximum number of entries as phone calls.

Is the incentive not a chance at winning £80k?

Either way, having played these competitions for 5-ish years, it's not unusual for them to change the maximum entries on a Friday where there's a large cash prize whilst not have edited/changed the T&C's on the website(s) because it already states in the T&C's that this can change.

I sincerely doubt they would change the phone limit if it wasn't authorised by the appropriate department.

But how do YOU know the limit has been raised?

I've never entered more than a dozen times.   Does it tell you when you make the (normally) 42nd call that this is the last you can make?   And as such you've just kept going today until you got that message?

Yes. I know the limit because I always enter via the phone entry until it tells me I have reached the limit.

The automated message goes as :

Thanks for calling the competiton phoneline...

Then states "calls may be charged at your standard network rate" etc. - however, once you reach your limit, instead of this line, it will state you have reached the limit, which would usually be on your 43rd successful call.
