Thanks for the update and I am glad it worked out for you.hogspudding said:The vehicle sold to me with a blatant "misleading omission" it was a TAXI, this should of been disclosed to me
Thankfully the retailer has rightfully compensated me
3k-5k
As I understand the thread, you purchased a Merc S-Class for £30k and later found it to be a taxi and now have a partial refund of £3k - £5k because of this not being told to you at the time of sale.
I am still confused as to why being a taxi is actually bad and devalues the car by 10% or more...
What are the reasons it was a concern for you?
I remain unclear, particularly for the type of car in consideration in this thread of which many will be taxis.
But not surprising. The whole thread was OP getting stroppy whenever anyone disagreed with him , told him something he didn't want to hear or dared to ask perfectly reasonable questions. But I guess driving around in a thirty grand taxi must make you a bit grumpy.photome said:
That’s your reply to the person who pointed you in the direction of the legislation. How gracious !hogspudding said:

Can we ask what was the level of "compensation"?hogspudding said:Are you all taxi drivers ?
I was given the information I needed very early on in this post, the car was clearly misrepresented under theThe Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008
The vehicle sold to me with a blatant "misleading omission" it was a TAXI, this should of been disclosed to me, it wasn't therefore it was fundamentally and clearly misdescribed. Thankfully the retailer has rightfully compensated me following the threat of legal action
FYI. It only costs a £185 to start a claim for 3k-5k and they were in a lose lose situation

You're lucky. I'm running a bunch of caravan parks from a Howdens worktop in a Hermes warehouse.powerful_Rogue said:

I remain unclear as to why a former taxi is such a bad thing and why it would make an additional 10% or more off the price of a used car. Particularly something like a S-Class, for which many will have been taxi, limousine or chauffeur vehicles of one kind or another. Assuming, of course, the original purchase price took into account any obvious extra damage / wear-and-tear in the passenger areas.1

Do we as readers of this thread have a claim under the

I for one believe that the OP should have informed us he only wanted positive answers and that he reserved the right to abuse those who disagreed.

Most domestic use vehicles that would have high usage would be from commuting....when they're in the car alone. While minicabs will have had a minimum of 2 people and would normally have more use in 1 day than a domestic users full week. Boot will also have saw significantly more use.Grumpy_chap said:I remain unclear as to why a former taxi is such a bad thing and why it would make an additional 10% or more off the price of a used car. A minicab is also more likely than even a family car to have trace amounts of food spills, urine and vomit - particularly in the backseat.
A minicab is also likely to have significantly increased periods of idling, which adds invisible miles (and the wear and tear that goes with it) to the engine in particular.
All that assumes the car has been proactively maintained to a good standard and that the owner was in the minority, who upgrade their cab regularly and regardless of mechanical soundness of their current vehicle.
Think of it this way. If, instead of commuting to your workplace, you carried out your working day from the car while it was moving, would you expect it to be in the same condition/state and worth the same as the commuting scenario? I wouldn't.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride2 -
So this is a Consumer Rights Forum with the intent to help people with consumer issues ? It seems there's only a few of you who actually understand Consumer Rights.
To those who like to abuse and take the p, don't you have real lives ? Living your life abusing others on forum is really really sad.....0 -
As is coming onto a forum, throwing around legal-ese and claiming to have won without any justification. Everyone else knows that without asking the direct question you had no right to have been told proactively by the dealer what your vehicle was previously used for and your suggestion that 18m down the line you magically got a massive refund from them is frankly laughablehogspudding said:So this is a Consumer Rights Forum with the intent to help people with consumer issues ?
