Optic fibre problems!

We are in the process of cancelling our sky broadband as the price has increased and we do not have access to fibre optic. Apparently openreach forgot about the stretch of houses we are connected with and they were in the process of fixing this. I have checked the neighbours addresses and they now have connection but we do not, any new suppliers we are looking at say it is an open reach problem and cannot do anything, needless to say we cannot get any answers or get in touch with them.

Hi Bobacrumb, since you have a Sky account, best to select a new Sky BB package (requires a new WiFi router to be sent out) as they (Sky) can arrange an Openreach engineer to call (but there are restrictions) and do both outside work (fibre optic cable from pole to inside house) and interior work (connection of ONT box & new router setup). I got this mid December, but due to some ongoing problem(s) I have free broadband and phone usage since then.

Spoke to them about the issue and they were not prepared to do anything to hook us up to optic or offer any deal. They usually offer something to retain you. I have filled out the form and no doubt open reach will contact me in 2023.

You need to have realistic expectations, Openreach have millions of houses to cable up. A little bit of infill for a small number of houses may be prohibitively expensive or not a priority when there are more attractive ways to deploy the available resources.

So you would not be aggrieved if everyone in your neighbourhood had access to a service, but not you? Hardly unrealistic I think.

Semi-detached so not far and then the next neighbour is only a few yards away.

What does the BT checker say when you put in your postcode and address .

If not available check who else can supply and prices .
  • We're sorry, our fibre products aren't available for you yet.

checked all other addresses around me:

Great news. Ultrafast Full Fibre is available at your address.
