It seems like many of us have had our fair share of upset.  I got to the stage where I literally just wanted to give up.  I do hope this forum gives a little comfort to those who are still suffering.x

Really sad that you and others are going through this.

The sad reality is that we don't have the enforcement necessary to deal with neighbor disputes in a fair way.  As anyone who's tried to get help will know, the police, council and MP's will generally do nothing.

Its actually a massive, understated problem in British society, now much worse in lockdown.

If enough people demanded that there was a change in society, then perhaps politicians would take notice.
  • Thought I'd give everyone an update. Our solicitor has written us out a really good complaint which they are sending to the ombusman. Just hoping we wont get let down like we have so much in past. Has anyone had any experience with the ombusman

Please don't blast me for this because I know it's going to sound crazy - but it worked for us (possibly).  A friend is a feng shui consultant - she does work for some really big companies (you'd be surprised who uses it) including a very well known bank.  She told me to use a large mirror (which I already had upstairs) and put it - FACING THE WALL between us and our noisy neighbours (I put it on the floor behind the sofa so it couldn't be seen).  She said that energetically it would reflect the energy waves (i.e. the noise) x 10 back to them.  My husband scoffed and I only did it because i was at the end of my tether and didn't know what else to try.  2 weeks later, I came home to see a For Sale sign outside their house - they moved out 3 months later.  Yes, probably a coincidence but just in case it wasnt .... !!

A wonderful result for you, particularly as you already had the mirror, but there’s no basis in physics for a mirror doing that. Perhaps the feng shui expert has given the same advice to 100 people, and the other 99 people where it didn’t work have simply kept quiet about it?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I really really feel for you OP. I have been in the same situation in the past and the damage it did to my mental health was so bad. I used to drive around for hours after finishing work as I didn’t want to go home. It was such a sad time.
We bought a flat and it was everything we wanted. A month after we moved in the neighbour from hell moved in. She had non stop parties. Loud bass music thumping the walls. Screaming, shouting, police arriving day and night. Drugs bring smoked out the window and the smell coming into our flat when we also had a baby under 1yo.
We also complained to the council, asb team, police etc and were always told the tenant there had MH issues so there was nothing they could do!
It was a nightmare. We ended up selling our flat to the council as at the time the local council were buying up private owned properties to add to council stock. They actually paid us market price so we got lucky in the end.
I since know they have housed another person with MH issues so maybe the 2 are cancelling each other out!
Might be worth enquiring with your local
council to see if they are looking at buying properties in your town.
I can’t tell you the relief when we had sold the place. Literally a ton off my shoulders.
When looking for a new place I did so much driving past, visits to try and suss out the neighbours and thankfully I now live in a street where everyone is really friendly and kind.
If I hadn’t been able to sell to the council I would have put it into auction. Might have taken a loss but I couldn’t live there anymore and was desperate to sell.
Your story rang so true to me. I know the dread and the anxiety you have in your own home. I really hope your family find a solution. Good luck!
I thought it was just me who drove around, rather than go home @kasqueak I used to start work early and leave work late because I couldn't face going home! I ended up with a breakdown and PTSD because of unemployed, constant partying, intimidating neighbours.

I wish the authorities would do more to protect innocent people because in both cases of noise nuisance, I was the homeowner and they were tenants. I don't want to stereotype tenants because not all tenants are uncaring bullies but these two were! I ended up selling both properties and yes, I had to disclose the dispute because I complained officially.

I really hope this matter is resolved for you soon OP and for anyone else experiencing ASB/noise nuisance from selfish scum. All the best x
