Happy February turtles! Made a good steady start on the challenge today. I’m working from home & helping my 9 year old DS with home schooling. It’s not easy but we are coping ok.
Budget
All pots filled, all Feb expenses allocated, Valentines for DH and this months birthday cards/gifts already bought over the weekend. Just need a little something for DS.
DFD
Made a ‘payment a day’ to my CC. Every day my debt will go down and my DFD should come sooner.
NSD
1/15. Nearly bought eggs but didn’t want to get off to a bad start. I will buy them tomorrow and use the honesty box.
Fresh Food
Made a roast dinner tonight. Used up cauliflower & carrots and had peas & sweetcorn. That’s really healthy for me!!
Drink
Just tea today
Exercise
Went for a walk around our village for 20 minutes with DH & DS
Gratitude
For me it was so nice to see the sun shining.
Focus
it was lovely to walk with family 😊. Spending some time planning. Tonight’s list is for food click & collect.

I'm hoping today is not going to set the tone for the rest of the month. I slept badly last night because I was over thinking a lesson that still had a few bits that needed to be sorted before starting for the day so I was late getting up and ready to log on and then my little work laptop wouldn't start up, I had to fling myself into the car and drive into school (about 35mins) to work from there. I sent several (increasingly desperate) messages to the ICT tech but he's managed to duck me all day so I'll have to go in tomorrow again, so no calm gentle start to the morning.
Hope: I have long term hopes about holidays this year finally happening after all being cancelled last year but I think I'll stick to more immediate ones at the moment so I simply hope that I'll sleep better tonight and tomorrow will be easier.
Gratitude: I'm grateful I work with a great bunch of people and that my technician was in school today and kept me going with endless cups of tea. I'm also grateful that my new sourdough starter showed it was working and I've got a successful loaf of bread.
Simplify: I will be simplifying my working life by binning one part of teams so that all student work is in the same place. I'm sure applemuncher will understand as I see she also has the joy that is teams teaching.Mortgage Free 23 December 2020

I'm having trouble with the bookmarks button (just changes colour, in a black square with a white outline). Given the laptop a good wipe so hopefully it will behave now.
Yesterday I finally got through to the chemist to order my repeat prescription (aka most urgent job for the day). Mum went back to bed after her friend had phoned so i pottered around filling various recycling bins. Used up a pack of basmati and wild rice (love it but the pack was broken and I left a trail of grains whenever I took it out of the cupboard), added a scoopful to the 3 portioned out boxes of chicken in black bean sauce (mum midweek meals) and ate the remainder with the second half of the chicken and broccoli in oyster sauce.
Lovely day so went to the shed and pulled out my painting clothes. Painted all the components for an 8' x 20" raised bed, polystyrene packing strips broken into shorter lengths and left by the bin (all four bins were covered with painted laths and bits, as were an old dining table and a small table). One large cardboard box brought inside to be stripped (tape and staples binned) and folded up for after the paper bin has been emptied on Wednesday. Thought the wood stain might not have time to dry if I painted the second bed so I baled the melted snow and rainwater out of several buckets into the 2 l bottles (more out of the shed - want to use them as drip feeders when the beds are in place), leaving the buckets free for more stones and soil when I dig out and level the space for the bed. Was outside for about two hours and felt great because I was doing something I wanted to do and putting steps in place to achieve something.
Washed my hands in another bucket of ice cold water to get as much paint off as possible, left the wellies outside and stepped onto the doormat, stripped off the painting clothes and put them in a bin bag, then scrubbed my hands and sat on the bed with my feet tucked under the covers (had turned to ice blocks). Much later I continued with my embroidery project using a piece of scrap tapestry canvas and the box of use up threads whilst mum watched more of her series on my laptop. I had gathered together some of the patterns for my other new project but they were on the laptop and need strong light (preferably day light). Easy tea - mum wanted tuna butties so I cooked the remaining chicken breast in peri peri sauce, last few frozen chips and a small tray of Mediterranean veg using a garlic and herb dip. Leftover veg will be added to a couple of ancient red onions, wrinkly peppers and any other scraps to make a large veggie pasta bake (several portions) and would also like to make cauliflower cheese (cauli, broccoli, mushroom and pasta in cheese sauce) some to eat and some for another day (depending on fridge or freezer space).
Slept awkwardly and have a severe crick in my neck so will proceed cautiously. For yesterday I am grateful for getting on with my garden project (may attempt to put the cover back on the polytunnel for a work space for painting), for having a rough plan - continuing with monthly, weekly and daily tasks including job for the day (keep getting a Billy Connolly earworm saying jobbie, jobbie, jobbie) but it's not a to do list (no pressure) just a reminder so that if infirmity (pain) or illness (muzzy head) means I forget what I'm supposed to be doing I have a reminder. Also going for one habit change/ improvement and will add others as they become established (ie when one becomes automatic, will add the next or up the target) and lovely films and series (just started the dig). Will make comments and offer encouragement later if the laptop cooperates.

9) FOCUS on things that really matter. what matters to me, is my daughter, my girlfreind and finding soem balance.
Future Plans
10) FLIGHT OF FANCY. So I have actually booked a holiday for October with my daughter, so fingers crossed. I would like to book a long weekend to Glastonbury in late May.
11) FUN and FIZZ (non-alcoholic). Do something for you every day. I definately need more fun, my GF and I wnet to the park on Sunday and went on the swing, see-saw, and slide. It was such fun and a nice memory. will seek fun, and fizz/
12) FOOD BANKS and many other charities are struggling as demands increase and funds decrease. Do what you can. Will do this when next in Sainsbugs.
Filling in the Gaps
13) FIRST of February to the 28th. The challenge lasts throughout February. Check in daily, whenever possible and especially if you're struggling. No Turtle Gets Left Behind....gosh failed at the first hurdle but anm back.
14) FREE yourself from the burden of too much stuff. I really like stuff, but I don't like the mess, am going to sort out my under bed drawers this month.
15) FIND the best price for everything but beware of false economies - yes, I do like to research this, but in the past i have been so suckered in to sales and offers. Cothes and beauty are my thing....now I have a bit more of a plan, of what I actually need, and when. I can't see any clothes being bought until I am back at work in an actual office. And beauty has a big red NO ENTRY sign at the moment.
So yesterday was a NSD, but today I bought some bits already. so 1/15.
Gratful for:
- a salary
- blankets
- some focus on myself.

Porridge - I don't think I use Teams to its capacity. Phew!! When I hear what other people are doing, it makes me gulp. Though I do suspect some of it is peacocking showing off... And some of the ' marvellous' tricks of Teams are no good for MFL. I was just absolutely chuffed to get my head around using breakout rooms! It means I can send kids off to do speaking practice in pairs, like in the classroom and keep that skill alive for more of them. Instead of them being brave enough to speak in front of everyone. At the mo, I just have their work in assignments. And the ks4+5 kiddies also email me work, which I keep in a folder.DrCarrie-how was your new job?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!6
