A bit rude
Because you've made a sweeping assumption that people who voted have booked a holiday in the middle of a pandemic.I have a holiday booked.Did I book it in the middle of a pandemic because I am emotionally weak and need something to look forward to?No. I didn't.The holiday I have booked was booked in September 2019 and was for June 2020.When it was cancelled by the tour operator I opted to defer the holiday for a full year.So I'm not delusional or irresponsible. And many people are in the same position as me.0 -
We have a week booked as it was cancelled from last year. I wouldn't book anything at the moment.
Nothing to see here, move along.0 -
It's not sla flawed mistake, you can get refunds, you just choose not to, and would rather go on holiday, hiding behind "I already booked it" excuse. Kinda like Xmas day covid mixing because you had already bought a turkey.0

Kinda like Xmas day covid mixing because you had already bought a turkey. What does the bit in bold mean?I chose to defer my June 2020 holiday for a full 12 months at a time when a normal life - like going to the pub, going abroad for a holiday, having a family get-together at Christmas - was what almost everybody (including our government) thought possible.Would I make the same choice with hindsight? No, I wouldn't.But the reality is that I do have a holiday booked.Whether that holiday will go ahead is anybody's guess and I will deal with it when the time comes. It may be that the company I booked with will have to cancel. I guess if that happens they will give me the choice of a refund or to rebook again. It may be that I will walk away from the £1500 of my money that they've had for almost a year if they don't cancel but I decide not to travel. Most people who've commented and have holidays booked are the same as me - booked pre-covid and have deferred. They are not delusional, irresponsible, emotionally weak or have booked post-covid simply to have something to look forward to.Like me, they made a choice at a time when that choice seemed the right thing to do.It's really not like "Kinda like Xmas day covid mixing because you had already bought a turkey."Not at all.

Lots of people chose to defer their holidays as to not deprive the travel agents of the cash, as well as hoping their holidays may go ahead, by deferring rather than taking a refund helped the travel industry stay afloatMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

Over Christmas we booked a holiday in Sitges for this summer. There is a risk that we either have to postpone or at worst would lose a €500 deposit. We won't pay balance for accommodation until we arrive. We don't 'need' a holiday or anything to lool forward to, but the prices were worth the risk. I have a glass half full attitude but if we're feeling at all uneasy about going we will cancel.0

We booked a tour of Scotland for last September, started the process of cancelling it all in June. We never intended to but got a couple of accomodation owners that had emailed us stating they may close for the season. One issued a refund straight off telling us they'd decided to close.
That really prompted us to cancel the whole job lot, 10 separate hotel/B&B's to cancel and around £800 in either full payment or deposits to get back. Managed it with just one stubborn hotel owing us £75, best I could get is a rebooking for Sept 2021 from them. Ok I had to take a voucher from Travelodge which will pay for some trip elsewhere over the next 12 months.
One thing's for sure, we ain't going anywhere just yet until absolutely sure we are safe and definitely taking refundable/ cancellation options should it be offered as a method of booking, some didn't when we booked last time. As I say grateful we got most monies back.0 -
Booked:
1st may bank holiday - U.K. holiday - transferred from the same date last year.
whit half term - U.K. break was booked last week but transferable if necessary
End of august in France - initially booked end of 2019 for holiday in 2020, deferred booking 1yr.0 -
I've got 7 weeks holidays booked in the next 11 months. 2 of those weeks are ones deferred from last year, 3 were booked before March 2020, the other 2 have been recently booked. They are all in the UK and all transferable or refundable if restrictions make them impossible to take. I'm not fussed if someone thinks I'm delusional - I just call it 'planning ahead'.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660
