Those are the masks that shouldn't be worn. They have a valve which means they don't filter your exhalations. So they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard! They are designed for painters and decorators etc, not for use in a pandemic where your (unvalved) mask protects other people.2 -
Jeremy Hunt is now making this case also:

Sounds like imposing a stricter lockdown by the backdoor. Can't afford medical-grade masks? Well, you can't go out then.
And of course, putting a price on freedom.
Although of course, I suppose people will just buy one mask and wear it until it falls apart instead, which will effectively make this legislation pointless. Not forgetting that it's going to be near-impossible to police, like most of these useless Coronavirus regulations.1 -
Relax, it's not going to happen. There simply isn't the supplies of FFP2 and above masks to go around the NHS and all the general public. Nor can you expect the average consumer to be able to afford to pay out for a £5 mask every time they want to go to the supermarket or get on a bus.

That headline doesn't state FFP2 masks. The type IIR masks I mentioned earlier are medical grade masks. They are available in quantity now, though they weren't in April / May.
There is a confusion about the type and purpose of masks, which will also include the press and politicians.0 -

But take your point re valves. They would protect wearer extremely well as they are FFP2 but not others. But then if everyone was wearing one?The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon1 -

Pound a piece is about what you expect to pay wholesale (Plus Vat).
People do need to realize if they wear one to go out for shopping then that is that. Should be binned on return home.0 -
