Pointless rant

I enjoyed the pointless rant - it read as a little tongue in cheek to me (though maybe I'm wrong about that!) and I was totally perplexed as to what the website was trying to convey having not seen the ad. (The lizard thing too?! What?!) I appreciated learning the backstory from those who had seen the ad, and it does make sense in the context but without that context, you have to admit that it's weird image.2

This might explain why my burger never looks like the one in the picture.
... and why when I drink red bull I still have to walk to the shops.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!2 -

Mnoee said:To me it looked like a broken windscreen with a rabbit and floating lizard, which doesn't say much to me! Maybe I just haven't heard their slogans over and over again, as I've managed to avoid television adverts for a good few years. This sort-of gave it away:I really think you're supposed to read the words in conjunction with looking at the picture...

The comedian Dave Gorman did a whole stand up routine about their previous ads when they changed their name from Norwich Union - it featured people like Ringo Star and Alice Cooper - Alice was saying his stardom wouldn't have happened if he hadn't changed his name from Vincent Furnier, but Dave rightfully pointed out that if you lived in a world where Alice Cooper wasn't a famous musician and had to pick a rock star name from your brain 'Vincent Furnier' does sound more likely than 'Alice Cooper' (but much more eloquently!)
I think he understood that Norwich Union changed their name to Aviva (and sell car insurance) from those adverts, but could still question the specific choices they made. I don't see why you're being so hostile because I think an advert is silly?0 -
Oh ok then. I've just insured my car with them. and I also have all my pension fund invested with them. and I also have shares in the company. and a ISA. I think!0

One thing that this thread proves is that Aviva have done their advert well because it has gotten people discussing it which is what adverts are all about. Plus it's not being discussed for real negative reasons such as offensive content; the only "negative" is people think it's silly which seems to be what they were aiming for.1
