Advice needed please on expanding memory and adding portable HDD to my laptop.

Options
Hi, i have a Geo book laptop which is wanting to update but its saying i have not got enough space to do so, there is nothing installed on my laptop apart from the essentials i.e Microsoft edge etc, and my hp printer and a label printer that's it.
i dont have any documents, photos or music stored on there as these are all on memory sticks and it says i have only just over 1Gb of storage left. so obviously cant update.
I have looked at Portable HDD is this what i need ? also is so could i install my printers on there to make more space ?.
TIA

Dependent on the model, there may be an option to install an M.2 SSD. Failing that, you can run a clean install of the OS.
Is there a model number or some comprehensive specification? What capacity the current drive?

Do you know how big the hard disk drive in your machine is? Perhaps we can get it tidied up a bit.

It's not a hard disk drive. More likely an eMMC. I guess 32 or 64 GB

    odollybird,
There are two things to try short-term.

The first is to use the Windows Cleanup Tool to remove temporary files and redundant system files. Follow both sets of instructions here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/disk-cleanup-in-windows-10-8a96ff42-5751-39ad-23d6-434b4d5b9a68

The second thing we will look at, if it is required, is a dism component cleanup which will cleans up something called the 'component store' in Windows and usually frees up a useful amount of space.

HereToday, are you 100% certain it is an eMMC or is this just your opinion? because to be fair your ‘opinions’ have been called out in these forums a lot recently for being rude and unhelpful. If you are not 100% sure then speculating is unlikely to assist the OP.

Don't know who you are, but you just seem to want to come on here to criticise HereToday
You don't seem to have anything much to offer in the way of advice.
Is it the old adage - do you have something to say, or do you just have to say something?

Windows 10 supports the use of an external drive or USB stick to carry out updates on machines with insufficient space.

I can't post a link due to only having made 1 comment, but try Googling "windows 10 update using external hard drive" and you should find a result from Microsoft which explains it.

That’s correct. You don’t know who I am, just like I don’t know who you are. You may well stand by him when he is wrong because you don’t want him to insult you. That reminds me of the bully at School who had a few cronies around him because they were frightened of being in opposition. That’s fine. You crack on. I didn’t criticise you for being weak did I? Now, on the subject of the post he is actually giving his opinions as opposed to real, constructive advice.
They all have eMMC storage, but they(or some of) do have a B type M2 port. Now why don't you go away until you can help any of the OPs whose flow you spoil.

    Jeremy,
Why don't you get a private chat room somewhere so you and HereToday can continue to insult each other in private rather than jumping on posts where people want advice and not to continually read about your personal disagreements.
A couple of days ago you were complaining about cyber bullying yet that is now exactly what you have started doing.

Try Piriform's ccleaner. I've seen it free up a lot of space that the Microsoft disk cleanup wouldn't.
