Can't a "selfie" be be tweaked in Settings to provide a unmirrored image ?

With my phone by default the screen image is mirrored but the capture is the correct way round. To take a mirror photo it has to be selected.

What is the magic ability do you think a smartphone has that tells if you or someone else is pressing the botton?

I'm amazed that Roddydog, the OP is still with us in our ramblings, but returning to the initial Q; I tried several times to upload a DIY pic online and in line with the guidance; selfies (taken by myself), wifies (taken by my spouse) and maties (you get it?) but they all got rejected by the software; so I gave in, used a photo-booth and the PO's check n send service for the extra tenner0

In the guidance it is clear a selfie isn't allowed. I took my own photo but it wasn't a selfie. In a well lit room against a plain background I reversed the phone away from me and clicked the button until I got something suitable where I was in frame, focus, etc. Passport arrived shortly after!0

Selfie, n.
A photograph that one has taken of oneself, esp. one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
If one took ones own photo it is a selfie.
Indeed the first selfie is believed to have taken in 1839, based on technology at the time it will have been mirrored but on the vertical axis

We've taken photos using a plain wall behind us with no problem. Even faffed about with dimensions for the ridiculous square photo they wanted for an Indian visa.
P.S. I think most people would understand a selfie as a photo taken with a mobile and a long arm or selfie stick.1 -
Thanks, just realised that both phone and tablet have the setting to switch off the mirroring when saved, (Doh) im very old!, surprised that default is mirror image and you have to change it!0

I'd suspect the problem with a selfie is being able to hold the camera far enough away. No reason not to use a tripod or friend.
