Keeping phone number as 'new customer' to existing network

I'm sure this has been asked millions of times before, but I'd like to get a good deal with EE as a new customer despite the fact that I'm an existing customer, while still keeping my number. I know that I need to temporarily port my existing number to a PAYG on another network, then port it back to EE to the new contract. However, 1) I was wondering if there is actually a MSE guide to doing this on the website (I was certain there was one but I just can't find it) and 2) does it matter which company you use for the temporary PAYG contact? Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as the O/P

anyone who has done this, can confirm how long you need to wait before requesting a PAC to go back to EE
the guy from EE stated 30 days to me earlier

For a standard "3" PAYG SIM it's £5 (and multiples thereof). It's the MBB data SIM that is £2 minimum.

Hi, did you find out any more on this?  I want to do exactly the same but on Three.  I contacted their chatline who said I could convert my existing phone to PAYG, then transfer to a contract phone on Three.  I think they then realised why I was doing it, and deflected all further questions and constantly tried me to go to their renewals hotline.... I don't want to be in a position where there is some hidden contractual statement that says I can't do this after I've signed up for another phone through a reseller website.  The difference is over £20 month for the same phone and tariff.

What more is it you actually want to know? You simply port out using your PAC as you normally do when changing provider, but to your donor PAYG SIM. Once that is done, you immediately request your PAC, and port back to your new contract SIM on Three. Should take one working day for each stage, but allow 3 days in total.
You don't need to make any calls, the whole process is done by text.
If it is possible to do it via Three PAYG, which I doubt, then they are not going to make it easy for you once they realise your intention. Just do it via the established and tested method.
If you can save £20pm, then spending £5 on a PAYG top up to do so is a trivial expenditure.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

so i am trying to do similar and easily confused.  I have been on live chat to EE asking them to go somewhere near the offers for EE iphone and sim deals via 3rd parties but they won't.
So if i go via Affordable mobiles or  Buymobiles for example, would I deal with them for any customer service issues during the contract or direct with EE?
I was originally thinking I would get my husband to take out the contract as a new customer but then obviously there would be a new number (the contract with EE that I have currently ran out last September but I have just kept it rolling on)
This is a much better idea but i'm pretty sure i will manage to mess it up in some way.  The main thing for me to bear in mind is this is my daughter's phone which she is using to work from home so she can't risk being uncontactable for any period of time.
Would there be a chance of this happening?

and if I ported out of EE and back in again within a short period of time (indeed in any time span) would I still be considered a "new customer"?  thanks
