That wasnt a !!!!!! hole that should say.If you look at the ofsted reports for even Bramhall, Cheadle, schools, £500,000 for a 4 bed semi, the schools require improvement0

There is 3 High Schools in Stockport currently on requires improvement, some of them haven't been inspected for over 2 years, which shows the whole system is a farce, let's not get into that though.I guess the price of the house depends where you are from as to whether it is expensive. After all £500,000 for a 4 bed semi in loads of places in the country would be impossible and your local schools would be useless. No idea where you were looking in Manchester though... maybe your eyes were closed or maybe you were much more restrictive then you seem to be claiming. I'll give you parts of Flixton aren't particularly nice.Back on topic:You probably need to look towards Sale or Timperley (the nicer parts, some bits aren't great) but the travel may be a little to far. Otherwise you are looking at Mottram maybe, Marple Bridge, Didsbury Village or Heaton Norris. I don't know enough about Tameside and Oldham area, but generally East and North East Manchester are cheaper.Prestwich might be an option as well, though it may be to expensive and again travel in rush hour might be to long due to the M62/ M60 and M66 junction.0

Urmston (Urmston/Flixton/Daveyhulme) are nice and not as expensive as Sale and Altrincham but the commute to Ashton wouldn't be great.
You might be better with something like Marple or Staylebridge. Parts of Oldham are nice - such as Saddleworth (Greenfield, Delph, Uppermill, Diggle) but further towards the town such as Lees and it starts to get not so nice (and parts are downright awful). Prestwich and Whitefield are quite nice, and some of the schools in Bury aren't too bad.0 -

Arent too bad arent really the words you want to hear when it comes to where your children will spend the most important 7 years of their lives.0

If it were me moving to a new area, I think I'd definitely rent initially. You have a significant budget, but the blend between area and property is a fine balance. I know where I live, every road is different and has it's own feel. I have lived here over thirty years, but someone coming here now could find themselves on the 'wrong' side of the tracks.0

Having done our research: Altrincham, Saleq and areas in Trafford, Didsbury are the best in terms of school but quite overpriced.
We are looking for a nice area in terms of school for our LO but also making sure my commute is not more than 30 minutes as I understand M60 is a nightmare at rush hour. Looking for a spacious house as we think this could be our forever home. Budget between 300k-500k (we may have to rent for 6-12 months to get a bigger deposit if nice area and we go over the above budget). Need good public transport links as partner does not drive.
Ps. Have looked at Mossley in Tameside. Been told to avoid Oldham, Stalybridge and Ashton-under-lyne.
Please provide your helpful suggestions on areas and your views on commuting longer than 30 minutes.I’m sure you’ll be able to find something in your price range in any of those areas.
Do you need a driveway or would you be happy with on street parking?0
