Why does their new symbol look like PD?

At first I saw a P but now I can see an F and a D within there. It also looks like an ear a bit. Maybe it was trying to do something like below?
Why tempter with something which worked. Wouldn't be surprised if HSBC UK was sold and became First Direct. The current First Direct would be absorbed. No indication of that at all! but I suspect this is part of the long game. China is now ruler of the bank. Profile is the ruler of banks. Why spend the money on this logo? FD doesn't have much going for it anymore, apart from good customer service. You have to wonder why they would bother. Something is behind it. Can't say I am a fan, it is not clear that it belongs to FD, nor is it distinctive. You could argue over time it will become associated with first direct, but their old logo already had that.
Pretty standard practice to change these things every now and then.0 -

It is indeed standard, but at one time last year some suspected First Direct might be scrapped when they stopped taking new customers.0 -
I used work for a company that changed their logo and name to something completely alien to it's customers. Everytime I see stuff like this I have to think why, what they have works, been seeing that big FD now for that many years so why now hide it.
BTW remember Consignia?0 -

Why does HSBC need all of these brands - FD, M&S Bank, John Lewis Financial Services as well as HSBC

What an eye hurting, headache inducing logo. Who knows how much they paid some marketing firm for that.
