best fibre broadband + router

Options
Hi All,

I'm about to buy a house and am looking for decent fibre broadband that also comes with a good router. I've heard good things about the BT router but they are expensive. I've heard good things about the Talktalk 'Wifi Hub' but that only comes with the top two options, which I don't need, and the 'Wifi Hub Black' that the basic fibre packages get isn't half as good.

Are there other ISP that offer good routers? Or am I better off getting the best price and buying a router myself?

Thanks!

Any suggestions that don't look like they are an extra from Robot Wars?

ZX81 was also a computer system back in the 1980s.  Before Robot Wars was a thing we had our own wars - loading from tape.  10-15mins loading to find out the game you've just bought was crap.
But the best advice has already been given.  What more do you need to know?

I don't understand what you mean. I had a ZX Spectrum and spent plenty of time loading from tape. I'm not sure why you are bringing it up though. What does it have to do with my question?

zx81 suggested getting a decent router. And I asked if they had any suggestions? Preferably routers that don't look like battle robots as most that I've looked at so far do.

Why isn't that a reasonable follow up question?

IMHO, forget buying a new router and get a mesh Wi-Fi instead.

The TalkTalk hub is actually very good and probably comparable to a BT Smart Hub.
Can you get full fibre (FTTP), enhanced standard fibre (G.Fast) or standard fibre (FTTC)?

Okay so I may may have misinterpreted your response.  I must have read the Robot Wars bit and somehow went off on a tangent - I thought you were referring to the username of the previous poster.  My bad.  Perils of late night internet :)

There are plenty of routers that don't look like Sergeant Bash, but the majority of them will have aerials sticking out.  Some of the ISP routers look relatively compact but a lot will depend on your environment.  Routers with external aerials may be better than those with internal/compact aerials.

A mesh system will be overkill (ie waste of money) if the OP doesn't live in a big house with thick walls. In my 4 bedroom home, my Netgear RAX200 router easily covers the full home with a strong wifi signal. I get anywhere between 500-900 Mbps over wifi 5/6, on a 1 Gig TalkTalk FTTP line.

    OP,
As others have said, use a third party router if you can. However if you are determined to use the ISP's router, then TalkTalk's wifi hub is very good for a ISP supplied router. Only reason my TT wifi hub is sat collecting dust, is that because it doesn't support wifi 6 clients (i have quite a few).

OP have you checked your suppliers at the new house ??
Plenty of routers have internal aerials  like the BT Smart Hubs .

Our BT Smart hub is reasonably good - we get full 76mbit's coverage at 5gHz all around our 140 m2 bungalow and even out in the garden we can get 30-40mbit's.
Can't tell you about coverage upstairs because we don't have an upstairs
