Vodafone/Onecom

Hi Folks
Looking for a bit of advice.
About 8 years ago I had a mobile phone on monthly contract with Vodafone, I changed job and my new employers provided me with a mobile so I decided to cancel my contract with Vodafone, all done over the phone and thier online form.
Leap forward 8 years and I'm going through my online bank statement and come across a DD from Vodafone for £12.49, checked back and it would appear that the contract was never cancelled and is now with a company called Onecom who are a Vodafone partner.
The DD reference on my bank statement is for Vodafone not Onecom
Onecom are denying that the contract was ever cancelled but as stated I believed my contract was with Vodafone.
My issue is that in 8 years I've never had a bill or any communication either postal or email from either Vodafone or Onecom, there has been no activity on the phone in that time and addmitted to me that they can see that the No has not been in use but he could only see 1 year back.
I know you will say I should have checked my statement more thoroughly but the payment was taken in the middle of the month so when checking I normally only look to see that the payments due at the end/beginning of each month look ok and as it was such a small amount I didn't pick it up, until Nov 2020.
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts where I stand with this, as I said I've had no communication from either provider in the 8 years since I believed I cancelled the contract, during which time they've had at least 3/4 price increases to the DD which I have also not been informed about.
Any thought would much appreciated.

First question has to be why has it taken you eight years to notice?
If you monitor your bank accounts properly you should know when each and every payment goes out if its scheduled on specific dates.  If it were me I would have spotted the transaction the month after it should have stopped going out, not eight years down the line.

Probably safe to assume you're out of contract by now so if you don't need this service, phone the provider up and cancel it.,  If the payment still goes out next month, phone them up again.  If it keeps going out when it shouldn't, get on the blower and send a letter.

On the naughty step perhaps? (sorry, not sure what else to say)
Maybe speak to the provider and plead for some discount.
  • Thanks guys
As stated in the original post as far as I'm concerned I'd cancelled the contract with Vodaphone and had made the final payment problem is that as it was 8 years ago I no longer have any relevant paperwork.
As for checking my statement yes I'll hold my hands up to that one and my only excuse is that as it was being taken in the middle of the month I didn't pick it up as I pretty much only checked for the normal stuff at the beginning and end of the month, I only spotted it as we had cancelled my wife's Vodafone contract and thought that it was this one they were still taking the money on.
    Lesson learnt !!!!
I have written to both companies and will await their response and keep you posted.

When attempting to cancel did you by chance then ask for a PAC to move your number, but then not use it? If so, that's why the contract continued to run, your cancellation notice being overridden by the PAC request.
    Evolution, not revolution
  • Hi Elky4,
I'm having the exact same problems with Vodaphone and Onecom and am increasingly frustrated like yourself. I had a Vodaphone business contract and then all of a sudden it was being managed by Onecom. I received no paperwork on this or email until I had a call from OneCom saying they were going to be managing my account. I received a letter on 18th of January from Vodaphone business saying that I had 2 connections that have been out of commitment for well over 5 years!!!! I've been trying to access an itemised bill for months now and haven't been able to get access. I keep getting passed between Vodaphone and OneCom as I was wondering why my monthly bills were so high! I am expecting a call from a manager in their complaints department today! It sounds like I've been paying over £20 more than I should be each money due to these 2 connections that were never cancelled. They're blaming me saying I should have cancelled those contracts but from what I believe those contracts should have been cancelled when I upgraded the phone as I asked for PAC number. Like you have stated too; I have had no email or postal correspondence on my account until Vodaphone business alerted me to these 2 unused connections. Have you heard anymore on your account?

You may have asked for the PAC, but the important thing is, did you use it?  If you didn't after 30 days the PAC expires and your contract carries on...
