Norwegian long haul cancellation - cashpoint exchange

I come bearing bad news, I'm afraid.....A few weeks ago I told you that I had made a claim to Barclaycard for a refund under the Chargeback scheme. Barclaycard immediately refunded the flight cost to my card while they investigated further. I had hoped that would be the end of it. But they just wrote to me to say that because I accepted reward credit from Norwegian, they would no longer uphold the claim, and would instantly re-instate the cost onto my credit card.I just spoke to them to say that irrespective of the reward credit, Norwegian have closed down their long haul operation, so have effectively sold me something for which they are not providing the service.Barclaycard have promised to go back and look at the claim again from this perspective.I am not holding my breath.I will update you when I hear back.Sorry.Dan0

Hi Dan,I’m sorry to hear that and I hope I didn’t jinx you! I haven’t heard anything more from Virgin regarding our claim since they said they would refund our money, but we’re only on day 27 out of 45 of the window where that can change, so I imagine Norwegian will dispute it! We have the refund money but I’m not touching it until we hear back or the 45 days are up!
Best,

I’ve just sent an email to the BBC Watchdog programme, not sure if anyone there will help but ....
I’m just so angry that this company is getting away with all this money. The reply I received from Norwegian repeated that I could use the points towards other flights but the only reason I took the cash points was to rebook flights to Orlando once restrictions eased.0 -
Shoedog said:I have interesting news.....Just like others on here, I booked flights to USA for summer 2020, then when the flights were cancelled, I accepted cashpoints. In November, I used the points to rebook for summer 2021, then all long haul flights were cancelled in Jan.My situation is slightly complicated in that I paid for the outbound flight on a Santander DEBIT Card, but paid for the return flights on a Barclaycard CREDIT Card.I recently approached Barclaycard, sent them all the supporting documents, and they have REFUNDED THE FULL AMOUNT. Santander are dragging their heels, and have warned me not to be optimistic (because it was a debit card ather than credit card), but they have logged the details and are sending a claim form to me to complete. So there is hope. Especially if you used a credit card. Hope this helps.What exactly did you say to Barclaycard to initiate this refund as my parents are in exactly the same situation but barclaycard are unwilling to help.0

ultahan, please see my update... I'm afraid Barclaycard completed their investigation, decided against refunding me, and re-intated the debt onto my card, so I am back at square one. Sorry.

Norwegian have recently updated their policy on using reward points. You are now able to spend them (on short haul flights only), but cannot pay the full cost with the points, it has to be part cash/part reward points. And they have extended their usage deadline to the end of 2022. Not that any of this help those of us who want to fly to USA!

Norwegian are really taking the proverbial **** now. Not only are they dictating to us how we can use these (useless to me) cashpoints but now when I went to log on to their site they have produced new T&C’s which you have to agree to before logging in!! Amongst all of the waffle are words to the effect that you are agreeing to all their conditions. I’m currently in contact with Nationwide credit card in the hope that they will act on our behalf. My argument is that I accepted the cash points on the understanding that I would be able to use ALL of these cash points for future flights to Orlando. Watch this space .....

This forum was really helpful to me as I initiated my own dispute with Norwegian airlines and I wanted to share my successful experience with my credit card company Citibank. I sent the following message to my credit card company beginning of April 2021 and received notice this week that Citibank ruled in my favor;
“I am writing to dispute a transaction originally made on Jan 29 2020 for $3102 to Norwegian Air Shuttle for flight tickets. Because of the pandemic, I accepted cashpoints for the flights originally booked for June 19, 2020 that were later cancelled. I rebooked the flights on October 30 2020 for departing August 1 2021. Then on January 14, 2021, I received notice that all long haul flights have been cancelled for Norwegian airlines, and was refunded cashpoints. However, cashpoints cannot be used on a comparable product (i.e. a transatlantic flight from [city of origin in the US] to [city of arrival in Scandinavia]), so I believe this not an appropriate refund, and I want to dispute the original transaction.
