Tonik Energy - Still awaiting credit refunds from Scottish Power the appointed provider

When Tonik Energy went into administration, I had (luckily??) just switched away to another provider, igloo, the transfer had completed and we were awaiting a refund from Tonik for our balance which was in credit by nearly £220.  I have subsequently contacted Scottish Power 4 times to try and get them to send a cheque out for our refund and on the first three occasions just told to give it a little time and a cheque would be sent in due course.

Today on the 4th attempt I have been told by Scottish Powers customer care team to send an email to Deloitte (who I assume are the administrators) in order to get a refund, yet Scottish powers website clearly says THEY will be issuing the refunds (screenshot hopefully attached to this post).

Does anyone know what is actually going on, or had any success in getting a refund, times are hard at the moment and even more so when one of us is furloughed off work, every penny counts and we can ill afford to be without this money if anyone has any good ideas I'd love to hear.

Here below is what Scottish Power are still saying on their website today

I'm in the same boat with the Yorkshire/SP SoLR. Doesn't bode well as I'm 2 months behind you.

I'm minded to report this to Money Box and/or You and Yours. It is surprising how often banks and the like suddenly pay up when faced with bad publicity in the media.

Was your switch completed before 10/10/2020?.
As you state your switch had completed you weren't ever a Scottish Power customer, cant understand why they wouldn't have told you that to begin with though.
Did you ever have,or set up an account number, login etc with Scottish Power?.
  • FYI SP have just given me the Tonik credit (20th Jan) after I asked for it!

How did you contact them? I have tried both email and phone and seem to be getting the run around. Did you get your credit returned in a cheque?
  • My dads showed up this week still awaiting mine
  • I was in the process of switching from Tonik and have had email contact with SP. I sent confirmation of my details to them (which I regard as a stalling tactic as they must have things like my name and address from Tonik!) in early December and have heard nowt.  I emailed again on Friday asking what the problem is... I'll give an update if I get a reply.

Hi scs07... If it's any help to you, I have been emailing " contactus@scottishpower.com " then I receive an automated response. At least then I know my message was received. I expect that the refund will be by cheque.
    Good luck!

  • I have been contacting SP every fortnight since the middle of October and generally have been receiving the reply we will refund you in the next two weeks, the last reply at the end of December was we will pay you by the middle of January. Tried to put in an official complaint but they say that because I am not a customer I can’t. Now using resolver which I hope will escalate things at the end of this week. Can you complain to the obudsman if you were never a customer of Scottish Power? I left tonik in August and it took a month to get a final bill which made sense and then my repeated attempts to get a refund for my £200 balance were ignored before they went bust.

If you left Tonik in August your not and never were a Scottish Power customer.
I cant understand why Scottish Power aren't aware of that and informed you so to begin with.
You should probably be taking this up with whoever you switched to if your £200 wasn't refunded,or credited to your balance.
Next port of call should then be contacting Tonik's administrators to be added to the list of creditors.

I don't think this is correct.  I was in the process of switching away from Tonik when it ceased trading. I was not moving to Scottish Power, but as I understand it, SP were administering all outstanding Tonik affairs.  I'm pretty sure that if it was nothing to do with SP, they'd have told me by now as I set out all the circumstances in my first email.
