Won't it be a hassle and people might lose facebook friends through switching?Under the current terms Facebook doesn't access the Whatsapp data. Under the new terms Facebook can use the Whatsapp data for whatever Facebook wants to. Facebook wants to use the Whatsapp data to make money from it as it does with Facebook account data. This results in privacy concerns.Signal is a messaging app similar to Whatsapp that is privacy focused.0 -
It will serve you some slightly less irrelevant apps, depending on what you message on WhatsApp, it hardly becomes a privacy risk for people, unless they constantly message about wanting to have an affair for example.
How does it become a privacy issue for those people?Asking for a friend

As no one can read the messages you sent except the recipient, how would they know you were having an affair?
You need to have a bit of a rethink on that....Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Won't it be a hassle and people might lose facebook friends through switching? The only problem Facebook have in owning WhatsApp is their dominance in social media. They also own Instagram and if they don’t appease the USA regulator bodies especially with democrats now in government they could find themselves having to sell one of those platforms.0 -
Signal gone down something to do with a flood of new users .Signal is experiencing technical difficulties. We are working hard to restore service as quickly as possible.

I'm trying out Signal AND Telegram instead of Whatsapp. Signal is the most secure but doesn't (yet?) have decorative frills. Telegram is very good too. Fully customisable and has the option for super-secret chats if required.
Although Facebook have backed off insisting that we grant them access until May now, I refuse to allow them to scrape my location, phone number, contacts and any other metadata that they try to get. I know that technically we are protected by GDPR but Facebook have already mused about moving the UK servers to the US servers at some point after Brexit. The US does NOT have much, if any, data protection laws.
So I'm leaving the holed ship along with many others who want to keep their details out of Facebook's clutches. If any of you are perfectly happy because they already have every detail about you and your life on Facebook itself, then you don't need to do anything.1
