is it possible to re-open an account with vanquis if its closed a number of years ago?
Vanquis don't take ex-customers back. It's a strange policy, but it's their policy nonetheless.
Unless this is a recent change, I don't believe this is accurate. I had a Vanquis card back in the early ish 00's which I subsequently closed. I reapplied, and was accepted, back in 2017 and have been with them since.

That's not true. I closed my old account in 2019 when I just started my debt free journey, it was the first debt I repaid. In November 2020 I opened a new account with them again as I'm now confident I can use credit cards to my advantage and rebuild my credit history.

OK. their policy is to not have ex customers back; their eligibility checker says so. This clearly isn't a hard and fast rule.

They have explicitly told me I can't have an account with them because I had one on the past, as does the eligibility checker on their site.

Where does it say that? I was considering closing mine, however if I can't be a 'new' customer again I may reconsider.

It was closed over six years ago. I think there might be a bug though as last May it allowed me to perform an eligibility check and said "We can't provide a result because you have a notice of correction on your credit file"; invited me to submit a full application, which was declined, and since then I get this message even though more than six months have passed.

There's no love lost but they do seem to have some quirks about their system.

I had a Vanquis credit card maybe 13 years ago which was in default and never paid. 14 months ago on my ClearScore it came up I was eligible for a card so I applied and was successful in getting the card with a £200 limit.

I guess they make it up as they go along then. Wouldn't expect anything less from Vanquis  :D
