Hi
I'm Currently on BT Fibre £52.49/month which includes Unlimited weekend calls. I use 0808 1703703 overide number most of the time on weekdays plus perhaps a hour a weekend on calls.
This seems quite extortionate, although I dread the hassle of changing to Plusnet.  How much is involved with the new router, and would the over-ride number still work?

If you have a BT Home Hub now you can still use it on Plusnet.  The Plusnet One router (the "current" one in white with a blue light across the front which indicates its online) is basically the same as the Home Hub 5 in new colours and with Plusnet branding on the interface.  Aside from that its exactly the same.  So in your case you don't need to do anything if you do switch (except maybe a power cycle on changeover day).

BT to Plusnet is essentially just a billing change, as they don't need to reroute anything at exchange or street cab. So no downtime.
    There is no 'hassle' whatsoever.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

surely your router login to the network has to be changed even if you keep the same router.
If you change routers then you have to change the SSID and login-in for all your connected devices unless you change the router SSID & password to match all your stuff. Which is what I did when BT sent me a replacement router to avoid faffing around with all my connected equipment.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

The Homehub (and presumably the Plusnet router since its the same one in different packaging) I believe populate the details automatically as there may be some behind the scenes stuff that allow them to "collect" it from the provider.  This is why I said there may be a power cycle requirement when the OP changes over but it should be okay, indeed you can go as far back as the HomeHub 2 if you needed to (or you can populate it manually if needs be).

But of course keeping the same router means you don't have to change the SSID or reconnect all your devices and whatever else.

It's in the link. Plusnet is around £21 a month including rental (but only for 18 m), so 60% less than BT, but BT was cheap under their original introductory offer. It's the hassle of changing they rely on.

    Good suggestion

I negotiated BT down to 24.99 for a 24 month contract, although they tried knocking it down to thirty odd quid to start with. Everything else should be more or less the same (I hope). Avoids hassle. 15 min call to  0800 783 1401 in total.

One to look out for, I swapped from BT to Plusnet, the BT Hub 6 wouldn't accept my Plusnet  account details.
It turned out that my Plusnet password contained a symbol not recognised by the BT hub. I used my phone to change the Plusnet password and it all worked.
