I am not sure under DSR how "click and collect" are treated, which seems to be what you have requested, but assume full rights apply as the principle is that you are bound to the transaction before seeing. Obviously if you did the order from in store thats a whole different ball park.

It must be in store for a fitted club.  (I wouldn't want to select fitted clubs by myself!)

Take your knowledge on trust, my views of golf is a nice walk in the park spoiled by a stick and a ball.  Assuming it was ordered in store there is no statutory right to cancellation for a change of mind and it comes down purely to their T&Cs if they decide to give you a right of cancellation.  It is possible that their T&Cs state that MTO are excluded from cancellations which whilst you may think is unfair thats broadly irrelevant, they are being more generous than necessary if they're accepting anything back for in store purchases that are simple change of mind.

The fitting pro let me try a few different drivers (No complaints about him). Once I decided Ping was for me he then tweaked it further by trying different "off the peg" Ping shafts to see what suited me best. Its a two piece adjustable club. It comes with an Allen key and you can adjust loft and lie yourself so nothing has been altered to specifically suit me.

As its an instore purchase you have no statutory right to cancel and you need to read their specific terms for in store cancellations. They can be whatever they want them to be including denying cancellation of MTO items.

After a ten week wait for the club I'd expect AG to be generous alright!  I'd view anybody getting a club fitting - especially in these times - as a valued customer.

It wasn't a simple change of mind. If the delivery time hadn't been so long I wouldn't have given their new model a second thought but now that I know about it I'd rather have it. I'm blaming nobody for the wait but it wasn't my fault either. I checked the t&c's and, unsurprisingly, custom fitted orders are excluded. My argument is nothings been customised to an extent its unusable. Get an Allen key out and you have a separate stock shaft and head, both of which can be reused. They also wouldn't be losing a sale as I'm looking for a replacement rather than a refund. To go down the valued customer route suggested by Manxman I've spent quite a bit there this year so I'll be making that point when the shop reopens. Expect to see an unused Ping G410 Plus on gumtree Glasgow soon. Thanks for your comments everyone.

I suspect those deciding if to be generous or not are also people wondering if they will have a job next month or not.  Would imagine the company's income has fallen off a cliff with courses being closed etc and many employees will have bigger immediate worries than customer satisfaction.

If you've not tried the 425 how do you know it's the right club for you?

While I sympathise with anybody working in a shop at the moment, if you stop worrying about customer satisfaction you'll definitely be out of a job.

Unless you agreed otherwise when you entered the contract, the time for delivery is 30 days.

If time was of the essence (because you'd told the trader you needed it for a certain date ) then you would immediately have the right to cancel.

If time was not of the essence then you need to give them a further period to deliver and if not delivered within that time, you have the right to cancel.

A fitting is like a prescription, nothing to stop you having a fitting and buying it by phoning another supplier. With Ping the only thing you can't do is buy new online.
