How is the process unfair? Management didn't consider he was promotion material, that is their prerogative. They know who and/or what they want, he just didn't fit the bill, they breached no protected characteristic.avawat20 said:
Sounds like you have a good case for a complaint / grievance for unfair process though if you applied with a week to spare and were not considered.
Reading the original post, there was a week left for applications when they applied but it seems theirs wasn't even considered - so they haven't technically been found suitable or unsuitable. How is it fair to say to people "apply by this date" and then "oh you did apply in time but actually no we're not prepared to consider it". If they applied AFTER then fine - but as I say, I don't think discrimination but maybe some kind of complaint/grievance. It's the organisations decision at the end of the day based on findings and we don't have the full facts from both sides here.

If the application was not noticed then it could not have been considered but consideration doesn't have to be a full-blown review of every sentence of the application it could be that someone, at an appropriate level, had decided, on the basis of existing knowledge of the individual, that they were not suitable.avawat20 said:lincroft1710 said:

I see this in my profession a lot recently -- there is a generation of "enititled" young adults who grew up with every possible advantage given to them and everything handed on a plate.
All the PC rubbish about everyone is equal and no negative comments/feedback
They have aspirations far above their capabilities because no-one has ever been honest and frank with them.
They then don't know how to deal with rejection and start blaming everyone else
It's toxic and I apologise, because it's probably my generation that has caused this
In answer - NO you haven't been discriminated againstThat's hilarious.Every generation says this about the previous generation. Boomers were known as the "Me Generation" based on their self-entitlement and narcissism, and they were given everything on a plate thanks to the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation and the Silent Generation. Yet they have the nerve to call Millennials and after "Generation Me" for complaining about the fact that the Boomers and Generation X pulled up the ladder after taking everything.

Work culture has changed for the worse. The loss of the pyramid structure to flatter organisational structures has resulted in an enormous loss of knowledge and experience. Which no longer gets passed down. Basic skills are often seriously lacking.Deleted_User said:JamoLew said:

Would you really advise someone, for whom management seem to have little regard, to make a complaint/grievance about not being considered for promotion. It would make him even more unpopular.avawat20 said:lincroft1710 said:

Well that's why these procedures exist... it's their choice to make and I see your point but complaints/concerns can be raised in a way that doesn't cause this. As long as the requested outcome is realistic, in this case - I want my application considered as opposed to I want the job then why not? If the management then treat this individual unfavourably then it would be likely be bullying and they have another claim/case. I'm not ADVISING either way, simply pointing out an action. You'd be surprised what grievances get raised at my organisation...lincroft1710 said:

It will depend from organisation to organisation but where I work all applications are scored- names tend to be made anonymous at application stage although this may just he public sector.General_Grant said:

I find it a bit sad though that an organisation isn't even willing to score it with the opportunity of giving some developmental feedback so maybe the OP needs to evaluate if they want to continue working here for much longer...0 -
Then we are not really talking about a grievance/complaint but a request as to why they were not considered or perhaps more softly, softly, what would they need to do to so they could be considered more favourably. It is very easy to treat an employee unfavourably without bullying.avawat20 said:

More interesting than the grievances you have encountered would be the effect on the careers of those who initiated them.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I would think many smaller organisations do not have the resources in either staff or calibre of staff to do thisavawat20 said:
