Never received council tax discount now huge arrears?

I never went, I saw a return flight literally for £20 and planned to stay one night in a hostel for £10 and take some food with me, I just wanted a couple of days proper sun as it's great for my health but in reality I was just dreaming about going.KatrinaWaves said:
The same way you were affording to go to Spain. You just used your money incorrectly. And didn’t claim the reductions you were probably entitled to and now it is too late. If you had opened some of your post you could have sorted it two years ago, but now you have a pile of unread bills and a debt you can’t reduce as much as you could because of that. Sticking your head in the sand will never help, and in this case it has probably cost you at least £2000theDon876 said:
How are you meant to afford CT when on UC?wilfred30 said:
Maybe if you'd paid the 50% you thought you had to pay, you might have been able to appeal but, as you haven't paid anything at all, your chances are slim to none IMO.theDon876 said:
Yes both of those I should get 50% discount, I filled in the forms and ticked the boxes online,y work coach double checked it yet it seems by the amount of arrears I never got the discount, so I have any grounds to appeal, I've never paid CT because I can't afford to on UC.Lanzarote1938 said:Do you mean Council tax support because of low income or single occupant discount? Have you been paying any Council Tax?
The good news is that I believe people no longer go to prison for failure to pay their Council Tax.
Minimum CT and water is over £1k per year. On UC you get maybe £4.5k per year. And also they were deducting CT from my UC.0 -
The PIP has literally just started. I will admit I'm a mess when it comes to things like and once it crosses the threshold I just leave it untill it comes to a head. Your right water is included in CT though they breakdown both amounts.elsien said:
You’re not just getting UC though, are you? (Although that shouldn’t make a difference as CT isn’t optional either way.)theDon876 said:

You need to get help to prioritise the essential debts, of which CT is one then make an informed decision as to what to do about the rest.If it’s ends up in court, then you’ll not only end up with a CCJ but you will have the court costs added on as well. Better to sort it before then.
I spoke to CAB and if it turns out I didn't get the 25% discount they seem to think it will be no problem backdating it.
It seems it's just a 25% and not 50% discount you get.
What can I say it can be torture living on benefits when your young and fit.

You are still not understanding. The 25% is for living alone. That will be backdated. This has NOTHING to do with benefits.theDon876 said:

The 50% discount is something you have made up, or been told incorrectly. There is no 50% discount in this situation.
you need to apply for council tax reduction which could be anything normally up to 90% of the cost. You have been linked to this by a previous poster (I mistakenly linked you to Aberdeen but there is a link from someone else to Aberdeenshire) why have you not looked at those sites?2 -
OPDo you have anyone who can help you with sorting your finances out?It sounds like you really do need help (I've had a brief look at some of your other threads),Sticking your head in the sand and hoping things will go away will not work - as you've found out with your council tax.0

If you're young and fit, you don't need to be living on benefits, you could look for a job? Although as you are claiming PIP I'm not sure that's what you meant.theDon876 said:

I have lived on benefits, and it is hard, but you do need to help yourself by getting advice and support with making sure you pay the essentials before everything else. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

You can still be young and fit and still be entitled to PIP and be unable to work. Those with ASD and metal health could well be young fit but this doesn't mean they don't need help and support in everyday tasks. My daughter is one of them.
