I would imagine that would depend on the reason you’ve not had either the discount or council tax support. Which none of us on here know.theDon876 said:
There would have been but I must have burried my head in the sand as I knew I couldn't afford to pay it, now it's with a collection company and I have to create a payment plan.MarkN88 said:Doesn’t really add up. You must of had communication.
The point is do I have any grounds to appeal ?
What did the council say when you contacted them? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Why are you not answering any questions?
you Said ‘all signs pointed to me having the discount’ what signs?
Single person discount can be backdated but the CTR is harder to get backdated. In England we will not do it without good reason and nothing here you have stated shows good reason.

Previous thread where you were fined for not having insurance. Does that mean you had a car? I’m struggling to see how you could afford to run a car but couldn’t afford to pay your council tax.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

In August they were asking about traveling to Spain. In October they were asking about hiding inheritance from debtors. So it seems like they knew, or they have other debts too. Why would you be looking to go on holiday when you know you have debts. It's all very odd.

OP tends to not return to threads, didn’t answer any of the questions from my first reply and was actively planning a foreign holiday a few months ago. Nope this doesn’t add up at all.MarkN88 said:Doesn’t really add up. You must of had communication.0 -
Perhaps this is karma catching up.

Reading this thread is shocking. People should be trying to help not going through old posts to bring evidence that OP is not budgeting well enough or doesn't reply at the speed of their liking. You have no idea about OP's life and the judging is shameless.
Anyway...if you think you should have been entitled to a CT reduction then you could raise this to try to get the arrears down. But by the sounds of it, your best bet may be to try to negotiate a repayment that is as low as possible. CT is up there with rent as a bill that should come off before others due to the severity of non payment, so if meeting those repayments means you don't pay CC bills for example, so be it. If you have other financial pressures that caused you to struggle to make CT payments, such as other debts, then I would recommend speaking to Step Change, the debt chairty. Good luck and ignore the judging!0 -

someone who hasn’t been able to afford to pay their council tax, a priority bill, for over a year if not two can absolutely not afford a holiday. Sorry. I have no issue with people on benefits spending their money on whatever they want, but you can’t plead poverty whilst going on holiday. You just can’t, sorry if you find that shocking and shameless, but it’s the truth!
No one complained about the speed, I complained that I asked many questions which were important to ascertain what has happened and he chose to ignore them. If people want help they need to answer questions and provide information. How can we help without that? I find it SHOCKING that the OP hasn’t answered any of the questions asked of him, how he applied, what made him think he had it etc, but crack on with your hand wringing my love!7 -
Is the £3,500 the full arrears? eg if you had received the discount you would still be expecting to have £1,750 in arrears as you say you have never paid it?theDon876 said:
Yes both of those I should get 50% discount, I filled in the forms and ticked the boxes online,y work coach double checked it yet it seems by the amount of arrears I never got the discount, so I have any grounds to appeal, I've never paid CT because I can't afford to on UC.
I had a recent issue (also Scotland) where I applied for single occupant discount following the death of my husband. Filled in online then after getting no revised bill / online account update I convinced myself I had not completed the application properly so did it again....after another couple of months I contacted local councillor and then received a call from the department to confirm there had been a system error, they could see my applications had been submitted but they had been closed off before any action. Received a revised bill and online account updated within a few days (I had overpaid about 6 payments by this point)0
