Most effective way of heating using an air source heat pump (ASHP)

Hi all, I have an ASHP for heating and hot water and want to know the most effective way of using it. Currently the heating is set at 17.c between 3am and 12am the next day, hot water comes on at 1am so I need a 2 hour gap before heating comes on (as apparently it will take forever if it is doing both simultaneously.) I turn mine off in April and back on in October, as required. I don't want it coming on during a cooler summer night when I know it's going to be 20C plus during the day. Heat pump controls are not intelligent enough to be able to see what's coming, and can only react to what's happening in the here and now, and whilst weather compensation without a thermostat can work very well in winter, it's still likely to kick in and out unnecessarily during summer months if not otherwise controlled.
