I am on holiday and brought some paperback books with me, three of which I shall leave behind for others to read and enjoy .I'm about half way through the forth book so maybe it also will be left behind as well.
Less to pack when I return home on Friday afternoon .

@MrsCD - Loving the twiddle muff!
Lots of bits from the fridge and freezer minimised today.
Pack of ys sausages + rough puff pastry = 12 sausage rolls.
Shortcrust pastry + fridge bits (some gammon, a large but squishy tomato, a couple of mushroom stalks, small piece of red pepper, all chopped small) + some grated cheese + two eggs + a bit of milk = 2 quiches.
Rhubarb + crumble mix = tomorrow's dessert. Remainder of crumble mix bagged and frozen.
I'm currently knitting a mitred square throw to use up some aran yarn - cream and ginger. Not sure what size it will end up - I'll just keep going until it's all used - but it's looking quite large!Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Hi
I love the idea of minimise, make do and mend. Please may I join?I seem to go through periods of buying then making do, then spending again.I’d like to do a bit more of the making do and I’m quite good at mending too.Minimising is my next aim over the summer. I feel cluttered and overwhelmed indoors even though I know many people with more stuff than us.My DH is retiring next week and with a reduced income I think a bit more of MMM is needed.😊11 -
I know it may sound daft, I have a small bridging denture, and to me using a whole tablet for a three minute soak seems daft.
I break one in half, and pop it into a cup with some warm water and only half a sterident tablet ,by the time Ive cleaned my teeth own gnashers and had a wash, it has a quick scrub with the tooth brush and back in again for my smile
I get a tub of 20 tablets in Savers for around a pound, and they do 40 days .
Only a small saving, but if it stretches your cash even a little, as they say in Tescos 'every little helps ':)
I also usually chuck the residue water from the cup down the loo as it can help keep the loo clean as well.
I literally try to waste nothing at allReuse ,recycle renew is my motto.
comes from having a very canny little Scots Mum who taught me not to waste anything at all.
But growing up with rationing meant everyone had small tips they would pass on to friends and neighbours to make things streetch a bit.

Make do: I was going to buy a new night dress but have repurposed a long cotton top instead.Minimise: cleared out a kitchen utensils drawer and removed some useless items that I have either never used or stopped using a long time ago.😊8

JackieO, you reminded me of a lovely lady from church many years ago, who would use half an Oxo to make gravy, just for herself!2025 Fashion on the ration

Unfortunately the supermarkets forget that there are many folk who live alone and cannot afford to waste anything.
When I was on holiday I went into a local shop to buy a packet of paracetamols. 16 for 39p seemed reasonable. bought a few other bits and it came to around £8. odd .seemed a bit steep so I checked the bill.I had been charge £1.00 for the paracetamols .I about turned and went back in to be told
"Oh the price was in the wrong place".
So I said very politely in that case you can have them back and I'll have a refund.Young lass said "Oh we can't do a refund on tablets" .
But I argued you sold them to me not two minutes ago.She shrugged, and I asked to speak to the manager.
She came out and I explained I had been over charged I wanted them but certainly not at a pound a packet .She agreed and refunded me 61p immediately.
It wasn't so much the cash, but the principle involved of being over charged, and no one seeming to be bothered.
But then again I thought in my old fashioned mind 61p thats over 12 shillings !! and 61p is better in my pocket than their till.
I got my paracetamols and my 61 p returned . but I would not use the shop again. It was just a packet of pain killers and now way would I pay a pound for themNow was I being mean or justifiably sensible do you think ?
