Smell in my house.......

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but I didn’t know where to post.
I bought my home around 2 years ago and the previous owner had weights and some gym equipment in the bedroom. My bedroom smells of sweat! It’s not BO, it’s more sweat. I’ve taken the carpet up and laid laminate and the window is open all day. Every time the window is shut, I can still smell it and it’s driving me mad. Is there anything that will get rid of the smell?
When the window is open, I can’t smell it and it’s not massively strong, it’s just really bugging me.
Thanks!

I would get one of those plug-in air fresheners.

Bear in mind that smells can psychosomatic - having smelt a smell once, your brain can trick you into thinking that you are smelling it again when you are actually smelling something else or not smelling anything at all.

You might also look into a Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) system. They are not expensive and have a number of benefits over traditional extractor fans. A PIV system will create a constant flow of fresh air through the bedroom, providing you have an outlet in the bedroom such as a trickle vent on the window.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I haven’t actually tried painting yet as I’ve been finishing downstairs before moving up the house. I will try stripping the walls though and doing this.

I also agree with this! I haven’t tried a plug in as I am constantly febreezing round the room. I have a humidifier, I will also try this. Thanks.

Years ago someone had used an entire room as a toilet, including the bed; it had a disabled on-suite so no need for what they did.

I could never walk in that room without smelling a less pungent version of what I had walked into, the only ones who didn't smell it were people who had never seen what it had been like. One day the decorators went in and it was fine.

Give the room a good clean, decorate it top to bottom and it will go away.

Bowl of vinegar may help. The smell of vinegar will also pass.

Have you repeatedly cleaned the room with something in particular?

Our cat once peed on the bathmat and I didn't find the source of the smell for a couple of days.  I cleaned and cleaned and the smell wouldn't go away.

A week or two later, I used the same cleaning product elsewhere and realised that the smell of the product had merged with the smell of pee in my brain and it was actually the cleaner I was smelling.  I switched to something else and the problem disappeared.

Maybe the sweat is trapped under the laminate ?

I think that you have no choice but to take up the laminate - and maybe even cut out some floorboards if they have been impregnated with urine.
