Yes, you could pay in full and then you'd be free to switch to a new provider (who will tell BG, and BG will then send you a final bill and close the account).
However, it might make it harder to resolve the problem and get a refund if you've paid too much.  Make sure you have copies of all the bills before leaving BG.

You need to identify where your usage is going - your current bill for standing charge + Meter 2 works out as over £110 per month since you moved in..... then there's Meter 1 to consider.

Did i hear you say pay in one go?! What a way to start the nee year! If i do pay in one go, can I just cancel my account with BG and switch to a new provider?
Yes, if there is no debt on the account then you can switch wherever you want, but don't rush to that conclusion yet.
Still a possibility that you might not have to pay all that they are claiming, but need to do the tests to get closer to an answer.

Well shows how much I know about it. Thanks for the insight. Is it possible to have all my appliances run on only gas?
Gas lights are very atmospheric but far more expensive than incandescent lamps, never mind LEDs.
You can boil a kettle on a gas hob, but make sure it's a whistling one.
Domestic gas fridges were available many years ago, but now seem to be just for camper vans but are available in North America.
My gas tumble dryer is brilliant but seems to have been discontinued recently, although 'Which?' says there are others.
And of course electric fires can be replaced by gas fires.

There's still some gas street lights by me.

We had calor gas at my parents house  -  with some very fragile gas mantles.  Electric is far more convenient.

Here is what I plan to do.

i have switch off everything and will monitor the meter readings for 3days from what was posted yesterday. So come Saturday evening I will check the readings and see but during this period only Tv and a very little kettle use will be used.

I am at a crossroad where I want to find out what is causing the spike but also dint want be inquire more astronomical usage from BG. If i have to pay the bill after my findings so be it but I want to make sure the meter isnt faulty before switiching

What is a consumer unit? Is that the switch box above the meter that controls electrical sections in the house?
