It could even be the tenants from downstairs trying to get free electricity.
Major question is where is this cupboard? Is it in a communal area or within gentlegiants flat. If its the latter it can only be either the tenant, the landlord or anyone that might have come to do a repair at any point. If its in a communal area its anyones guess whats happened, and the landlord may just turn around and say it wasn't him and claim there has been tampering with the meter since the tenant moved in. Then what?
After this has been sorted I would get your energy company (the local power network) on the case and get the meter resealed. (my understandings are the seals should be done by the electricity provider/power network.....or at least thats what the electrician who came and installed my electric charge point said, so I had to call them out and they resealed mine (nonurgently))2 -
You are right, I've assumed that the meter is actually in the OP's flat and under his control rather than being in a communal area and available to all and sundry - the plot thickens.
If the meter is in a place that's accessible to all then I think I might be inclined to report to BG that you think it's been tampered with (unless it's you that been doing the tampering) and get them round to investigate.
The two photographs show that the terminal covers have been removed and not replaced in the same orientation, the lack of seals is very suspicious as is the wiring that goes downwards.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
It's all gone very quietNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Some threads do end very quietly. But it has been an entertaining 30? pages. OP did come back yesterday, but did not post?
Hopefully has had a resolution. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
Where has the OP gone? We've all been on tenterhooks waiting for the outcome, the suspense is killing meNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

An embarrassing own goal perhaps ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

That's my thought Robin. From what was posted, I wondered if he'd found some device rated at 3kW that had inadvertently been in use, said it was the heated cot until we all then picked holes in that scenario, leaving him nowhere else to go.
I really would like an update - people ask for help and this forum is especially good at that and they get it and the benefit of the considerable expertise here, but then you don't know how it turns out. Which feels very disappointing.
Even if it is an own goal, the posting here has surely been instrumental in the problem being identified and reducing bills going forward, so it's been worthwhile, even if a smidge embarrassing.1 -
Sometimes we need to remember that most people have a life outside of this forum... and that even includes having to work at times as wellThe OP will return at some point I'm sure as they have each time they were absent for a few days.0

This is a bit like reading a book, getting to the end and finding the last page has been torn out.4
