Ebay - buying from Europe now..
Comments
-
I ordered several items from various sellers in Europe the last week of December.
One has been refunded with no explanation,
None of the others have been marked as Dispatched yet...
Items from the sellers I have used before are showing (on ebay) as exactly the same prices as they were listed at a few weeks ago.
No mention of extra vat or anything like that if adding them to my basket or starting checkout.
On the other hand, I sold an item to Northern Ireland (via facebook) yesterday. Trying to use my regular carrier failed as they asked for an eori(sp?) number which neither I or the buyer has (both private buyers/sellers)
I tried parcel2go and the only options for carrier were parcelforce or hermes.
Item was oversize for hermes so I booked parcelforce.
I had to find a commodity code and fill in a customs form with the value.
I currently have several items listed on ebay, these are available internationally via the gsp.
However, ebay are still treating Northern Ireland as part of the UK so I am not able to remove them from the postage options.
This is an issue as, at the least, I may have to fill in/print customs forms and use more expensive carriers without any way of charging the buyers the extra for the postage.
If buyers in NI start getting charged customs fees I am soon going to get a lot of 'not delivered' items or bad feedback!0 -
^ I know buyers are often useless at reading descriptions but it might be worth adding a brief explanation to your listings, that you're a private seller (even if you have a business account, you are just one person, not a big company with accountants and legal staff to decipher the rules) and you are not currently able to post items to NI, OR if you do post to NI that until the mess is sorted, the buyer takes the risk of being charged customs fees.0

A German seller I’ve bought from before is no longer showing shipping to the UK, I asked if it was possible, he was very apologetic but said not right now as none of his carriers would accept the package until things were clearer. Looks like EU sellers for now could be an issue. That said I do have something coming from Holland from another online marketplace which has been shipped today....0

That includes overall purchase value, including delivery. Does anyone know why and what can I do? With their bot I got nowhere.0

HMRC changed the law starting 1st January, now online sellers need to collect UK VAT for all purchases under £135 (€150). Over that it will be sorted out when the package enters the UK as import duty may also apply in addition to VAT.
The £15 rule has been abolished.1 -

I was posting a letter-sized item to Northern Ireland at the post office on Friday. The staff there said they had not been told to do anything differently for now even with larger items.0
