That's because the EU themselves are making their general international changes from July 2021. The fact that the UK-EU deal was last minute is nothing to do with it.martindow said:
Thanks. That also half answers my question about selling into the EU. Ebay will operate a similar VAT collecting service, but according to the document only from July 2021with no mention of th first six months of the year ...soolin said:I’ve found this as well

My guess would be that HMRC will let the status quo continue for a few months. The less fuss made by people now then the better it will be. They should really have announced an amnesty for a few months to simplify it and let a new system settle in but that would be sensible.Spoonie_Turtle said:

So up to July will parcels to an EU country incur local VAT and a clearance charge? I can't imagine that the 27 will let shipments in without charging.Spoonie_Turtle said:That's because the EU themselves are making their general international changes from July 2021. If it's under a value of €22 then no. Above €22, I'm not sure - I haven't yet managed to find out what the UK-EU deal actually means. If through an online marketplace they would have the ability to deal with any import VAT so the buyer doesn't get hit with handling charges but whether they will implement that before July if relevant I also don't know.martindow said:

As per my previous post, both Aliexpress and eBay are now charging an additional 20% on items coming from China , I can’t think of anything to search for that is likely to come from an EU country to see if the same applies.Spoonie_Turtle said:

I guess going to a European eBay site and searching for things from the UK might show it, maybe? Or Etsy, perhaps (I don't know if they will be complying - their stance has always been that they don't get involved with actual transactions - unless there was a dispute, I assume - but they may have no choice now). 1 -
I asked about UK to EU but then also commented on EU to UK so I am to blame for any confusion here! Mind you confusion is the name of the game at the moment and no doubt things will become clear in time.Spoonie_Turtle said:The previous poster was asking about items going from the UK into the EU

apologies, I am so confused now I can't even tell the difference! As I previously mentioned, I am going to leave well alone for a while and tackle it all again later when I can make some sense of it.martindow said:
