I've planted out all my tomatoes today. I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed that they don't get blight like they did last year.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget1

My tomatoes have all been moved outside. I put them all out to sunbathe yesterday, and then moved them into their final spot behind the garage last night. They’ve been in the zippy for a couple of weeks so didn’t bother with hardening off, so fingers crossed they’ll be alright. They look fine this morning so far!Beans are finally germinating in the zippy after a few days of nice weather.Just aubergines and peppers to pot on and move out into the zippy now.1

Have put the chilli plants out in the garden to have a sunbathe while the weather is warm. Must remember to bring them back in tonight!!
Everything else seems to be enjoying the sunshine and growing like mad. The beetroot in particular are growing very quickly.1 -
In contrast to you @RelievedSheff, I'm not having much luck with beetroot. Only one germinated after direct sowing about 3 weeks ago. My tomatoes in particular have also had a little bit too much sun and are a bit sun scorched in places. Fingers crossed they recover - they seem fine other than that. One of my peppers in the doorway of the zippy has suffered too, but only on one leaf.
Everything else is looking full steam a head now. Strawberries nearly there and first row of radishes about ready to harvest!1 -
Forgot to bring the chilli plants back in last night but they seem to have survived the night outside!
Might just leave them out now and get them planted in their bigger trough.0 -
My first tomato has appeared! One of my Maskotka cherry ones, which have been flowering for a while. The other varieties are only just starting to flower. The sweet pepper plants I gave to my mum have started flowering in her conservatory too, but mine in the zippy haven't yet. Tried to get some shelving from Ikea last night to create more space in the greenhouse but all sold out.
Have friends coming over for an alfresco tea tonight (how strange to be socialising) and going to put my first radishes in a salad. No lettuce yet although growing well, so that'll have to be shop bought for now!1 -
Bit the bullet and planted the chilli plants out in their trough against the garage wall.
Fingers crossed we don't get anymore cold nights now 😕
I have reclaimed my kitchen window cill again 😀0 -
So far tomatoes doing OK, got flowers on some. The strawberry plant I have in a hanging basket has fruit forming already, the plants in pots in a less favourable aspect are starting to flower. Looks like the courgette might do something this year. I've not tried chilli or peppers this year, not worth the bother. I was only growing them for the parrot and he turned his beak up at last years meagre pickings.0

I'm slowly planting up outside and the flat is feeling less like a jungle. Next year I'm direct sowing most things, forget this grow inside and transplant business!

Spend this morning sorting out the brassicca bed. Marestail looked like a small forest! Planted out all the cabbage, kale, broccoli grew from seeds, donated a few plants to a new neighbour. The cabbage and broccoli i was given looks lovely and huge, will ask advice for next year.
The chard, leaf beet and cabbage i direct sowed all coming along nicely, can't see any difference now between the ones i had a propagator lid one and the rest.
The radishes i forgot to thin so only got a few from the 2 short rows. The salad bowl lettuce looks lovely and done a good thinning, can start harvesting the outer leaves soon.
Direct sowed some kale, only one of the seedlings survived, rest got munched in the zippy greenhouse (along with the potted up tarragon).
Tomorrow is the earthing up of the potatoes after a bit of weeding.
The broadbeans all got blackfly and only one little pod. Gave it a soapy spray, but might just pull it all out and use the bed for something else, will wait a week or so and see what happens. A shame, but lesson learned: plant in november! It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.1
