I built a raised bed from old house bricks the weekend, sowed my salad leaves and they should start to pop up soon.
My OH has prepared the pea and bean site, just waiting on them to all sprout and establish as a plant, then they can go outside.
He's also shredded a load of twigs and branches, that's going on our walkway round the various sections in the garden and in one of the neighbours to create a walkway round his.
So far I've got 20 tomato seedlings, more pop up each day. Unfortunately my 'SIL' has said she only wants 2! I had better not sow any more.

I planted up a smaller pot of all the squash pots I had that I think the mice have had. Unfortunately the cucumber pack only had 4 seeds (£3.49!!!) so I will go out for more later today. I need container compost too, to get my hanging baskets goingSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

@Suffolk_lass it's my first year growing cucumber and I was was a bit shocked by just 8 seeds in a pack for £1.50, I got marrow seeds from the same place at the same price and there were around 30 seeds.2

@Fosterdog I bought all my seeds in January from Kings Seeds who are primarily commercial seed merchants but do sell to the public, I believe. I bought crystal lemon cucumbers (tennis ball sized yellow ones) and got about 30 seeds but the rhs award mini-munch were just 4 to the pack. I have tried various (outdoor) cucumbers and this one is excellent. Off out to get some more soonSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

@Fosterdog I buy mine from premier seeds direct UK, most start from 99p and tend to arrive within 3 working days.
I'm in trouble with my toms, seedling count is now 25 🙈
Peas are starting to sprout indoors.
Only thing not sprouting outside are the herbs I sowed for 'SIL', will get more on the go the weekend.
Have to get my fruit section organised and frame / netting up the way they are growing.

@Fosterdog I get mind from real seeds and franchi seeds. The latter always seem to throw the cart in as well as the horse so usually plenty for a few years.

@MovingForwards I've beat you on the tomato seedlings, I have 63! And that's with sacrificing some when potting on! No idea what I'm going to do with them all.
On seeds, I've got most of mine from Just Seed. I got a few from there last year and they were cheap and really quick delivery, and everything seemed to grow well.2 -
Cleared part of onion bed where some onions sets (from old pack) didn't want to grow, replaced with 2 types beetroot seeds.
Removed old tent groundsheet for the brassicca bed, ground like soft butter! A dream to work over. Will direct sow the summer cabbage, 2 types chard and spinach.
The potted up tomato seedlings got really big almost overnight and at least 3 weeks before can even consider planting out! Only thing can think of to slow them down is leaving the window open during the day so a cool breeze can go over them.
It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.2 -
@Caitykinss sell some, it's amazing how many people were after veg plants last year.
I still need to find where I've put my netting and have asked my OH to dig out my old plastic greenhouse frame to be repurposed this year; top part for brassica's and lower part for my fruit.
I've created little propagators from old takeaway lids, put them on top of my seed pots and seedlings are appearing, I then move it on to the next group.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1
