@Shropshirelass, give Fair Isle go - in proper stranded colourwork you never have more than two colours in one round or row, so although it uses lots of colours, you only ever have two at a time. The ghastly 1980s patterns that used 8 or 9 in one round or row were awful, and sadly I think they put off a lot of knitters!
I'm crocheting a bit more lace this morning. I want to make undies this spring/summer, and as crocheted lace trim in thread is quite slow, I think I shall try doing a bit in between doing other things, and it should soon get on...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Sorry to be so long in repkying, PipneyJane and Laura_Elsewhere, but I have been trying to find my war Economy books. I think we have about a dozen, all hiding among the 5000 or so books that we have. Agnes ' one is the most interesting and it sits beside the Laundry Work one, which I saw that we had been mistaken . Despite having plain board covers and the flimsy paper it is from 1952! I also have a modern reprint by Joanna Chase called Sew and Save or something similar. Given our present overuse of resources i think we should go back to the War Economy standard. I got my small pieces of fabric stash out this morning to look for bits to make a birthday banner for my DGCS, on the lines of e.g. Tom is 6 with the letters embroidered on each bit of bunting. I have plenty of furnishing fabric , Sanderson and the like. Would it shrink? I will bind the edges with biais bundinf. Any advice welcome.
Hugs, everyone and keep safe.7 -

The banner sounds like a lovely idea! Tom should be delighted. The only thing I have to suggest about shrinkage is to wash the fabric first, before sewing the banner. If it’s cotton, wash it at 40C in the washing machine with a colour catcher. You may need to use a lingerie bag or two for small pieces, to ensure that any stray fibre doesn’t wreck your machine. If it is a large piece of fabric, instead of using a lingerie bag, fold the edge over twice so that the raw edge is on the inside and tack it down firmly.

I got the pattern and the fabric out that I bought last year to make a summer dress.
I even washed the material and ironed it!

After all, this Village Hall has that lovely big table for cutting out, and then the smaller tables we can push under the windows for sewing at - they're sturdy enough for a machine to whirr away on, and the light will be marvellous.
We can all keep each other company over the next couple of weeks, and see if we can really get ourselves going again!

I have the next few days off work so I can step away from this desk in the back bedroom and I have no excuses!
New dress coming!2020 Fashion on the Ration: Starting in January with 66 coupons. 37/66 remaining.8 -
Right.... if @SezzaF is making a new dress, then I shall commit to making my dressing-gown by Easter.
The fabric was bought about 4 years ago, it's been cut out for over two years, it even got partly (badly) made at one point... I got it dismantled and all the pieces pressed, but it's remained a pile of pieces.
Time to get organised about resurrecting it! One 40s-starlet-style shell-pink heavy-satin dressing-gown coming up!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I’m battling with a pattern to get a really well fitting shirt. After about six versions I have got the bodice looking pretty dam good if I say so myself
The sleeves are a different story. I want to do cap sleeves on a linen shirt but I’m having to put together a Frankenpattern. First attempt at the sleeve almost had the whole thing hurled into the bin. But experience has taught me, walk away and tackle it afresh tomorrow. Eventually I’ll get there.
what a pity we can’t have fitting sessions in the village hall. I’m sure you could tell me where I’m going wrongIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!6 -
If the sun shines, I will even commit to wearing my new dress when I go for t'Jab on Good Friday!
