I do remember my mother telling me stories about my maternal grandmother - one of them was the fact that , in post-war North London, she used to frequent the kosher butchers rather than the ordinary butchers ( our family aren't Jewish) because 'the meat was better'2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

@Laura_Elsewhere I think it’s partly from my mum’s Home Economics lessons and having grown up with rationing. I remember being shocked that people made things like cottage pie with just mince, onions and mash, there were always carrots, peas, celery or anything else that needed using up in ours.We are now currently undergoing ‘done in by veggies part 2’ after a huge picky salad and cold cold meat.I may need to be rolled out of the village hall tonight!✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

@Cherryfudge congratulations on the wonderful news, new addition to your family.Received three pairs of knickers for Christmas from my mum. I should not need any new ones next year.I have been looking for how many coupons I have used - trying to find my last post with it on - over the next couple off days I will log on via my laptop and check. It is difficult with the phone. For next year, I have an electronic notes page already set up.Friend crocheted me a tortoise - my favourite Christmas present this year.Regarding the chocolate, I received around 14 weeks worth of chocolate - based on wartime rations. This takes me up to near Easter. I do share with DH. I am going to do the same as last year. I am not going to buy myself any choc between now and Easter. Once it is gone, it is gone. If it goes before then my body gets a sugar break, if I managed to make it last that long, that is great - I have kept to the rations. I will let you know how I do.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

That's a good idea with the chocolate - I've given tons of it this year as Christmas presents and while I'm generally 'not bothered' about sweets, I do have a sweet tooth particularly in regard to chocolate.
I've just been given a slightly belated Christmas present: Debbie Shore's Sewing Room Secrets, Essential Skills for Dressmakers. I know it was someone here who mentioned it, so thank you. I'm going to need all the help I can get to start sewing and it won't be just yet but hopefully later this year. I've also been given a holder for my circular needles and some dressmaking pins so I'm happy about those.
On the subject of New Year, coupons and inevitably resolutions, I'm allowing myself a fresh start on my list of toiletries to use up as I have a couple of new items to add in and I've finished a few hotels soaps, etc. since starting the list three months ago. I want to photograph the stash corner and do some sort of total weight of yarns to use. If I can work out how to combine it with @Laura_Elsewhere's scheme where we aim towards making 66 coupon's worth of items, that would be good... I'll plod on with the UFOs... only one long-term one completed this year but it was DH's thick jumper which was large as well as long-standing, and I've increased the list since June when I wrote it out. I'm another for that Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy but the thrill of the hunt is clearly strong in my soul.
Undoubtedly there will be other things to make resolutions about but I think these are the relevant ones for here.
This evening I've been trying to work out where I'm up to with tinking the baby blanket but I haven't managed to get my head round it. I think I need another good night's sleep.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Gem-gem, that’s a great idea about ‘rationing’ the chocolate. Are you allowing 3 oz a week? That’s 85g which seems a tiny amount!I think I’ve got eight weeks worth if I include a bag of Lebkuchen. Not sure I can stick to this but I’m going to try.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7

Oh, and I hope you enjoy using your book, @Cherryfudge, I’m sure you are already familiar with Debbie Shore’s YouTube videos, I love watching her as she always seems so calm and serene. Very unlike my own sewing experiences!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.7

Lovely news Cherryfudge and MaddieMay. I have three grandchildren in the Uk and when feeling low and often at bedtime I look through them on my phone.
