@PipneyJane, I have bought felt from a big fabric shop here, Ab***an, they have it in meter wide rolls but they also sell it by weight in bags. I bought it to use in school for the pupils to make large Christmas stockings. The felt was the back while the front was made with lovely Christmas print cotton. The pupils chose the fabrics and they all learned to use the basic electric sewimg machine. They worked really well but I have no idea how they would wash. I also did get some via freecycle for school stash and I did wash that before I took it into school but I didn't measure it before and after. Maybe it would be worth doing that with a test piece. I do think you are right though that it should have reached maximum shrinkage during production.
@Laura_Elsewhere, you are so right, it is so difficult sometimes, I wish someone would do some research and tell us what is best, it is mind boggleing trying to work it out.

I've always fancied a wool-felt winter skirt and waistcoat, with embroidery.... hmmm....

We're just having our usual quiet Christmas at home, the two of us, so I shall probably pop into the Village Hall tomorrow at some point, in case anyone's on their own or maybe a new refugee or two might need a mince pie?

After an early morning flap as the boiler was making suspicious noises (I was wondering if we were having a daylight bombing raid) and a hopefu text to my plumber all is now peaceful again. 

Bless him as he turned out saying to his wife ‘Sorry Love, I have to go. They’re nice people and they’re Wilson’s too’ (we have the same surname). 

Actually I think he was more excited to escape cleaning duty and would’ve popped in to see his parents who live round the corner from me.

That's a good idea - I wouldn't have to worry about the baby overheating either. I did have a quick look at all the white fabric in a couple of local shops and didn't spot anything I really liked but there wasn't much time to search.

If I don't 'see' you all beforehand, have a day tomorrow. It's been another weird old year but here's something to put a smile on all our faces: new book of coupons in just over a week!
