I am someone who’s always disliked exercise but a couple of years ago I recognised that I needed to make some changes if I was going to enjoy my later years (I have an older sister who has made some poor choices in this respect, so I know what happens if you ignore these warnings).Anyway ... I started going swimming regularly, and a few things helped me to keep going. I go first thing in the morning, to get it out of the way and to ensure no distractions - it’s so easy to find reasons not to go. I get everything ready the night before so I can just get up and go. And most importantly, I had to change my mental narrative from ‘I’m Polly and I hate exercise ‘to my name is Polly and I swim three times a week’. That might sound bonkers but it’s helped, because even on the days when I really don’t feel like it, I go because it’s what I do. Obviously I can’t go swimming at the moment so I started running instead but using the same principles, and I have managed to keep this up and finish the Couchto5k. I can really feel the benefits, not in weight loss but in improved breathing, reduced joint pain and generally moving more easily. So join me tomorrow morning outside the village hall, we’ll do some gentle laps of the cricket pitch and see how you feel.
My personal internal narrative these days is "I'm Pip and I run first thing in the morning".
- Pip"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

@thriftwizard your doing lots better than me... I'm put on a full 14lbs..
My trousers are so tight i fear they may rip!
I went running and I have to admit there was no chance of coming home with dry feet and staying upright was difficult.
As part of my fashion on a ration...I aim to get back into some clothes which I'm to fat for!
On the thrift front.. I've finished my skirt. Need to loose a few inches then it'll be fine.
Might work on my hat for a bit.
I have mexican soup with avocado salsa and fresh bread if yoy want to share. I'll leave the flask and basket on the table.# 36 1p challenge 2024 - £536.60

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the local carpenter was called up in November...
Maybe we can look around and see if we can find something suitable ourselves?
What on earth are "avocado" and "salsa"? How many points do you need for those and do you think Mr Williams would have them in stock? How long do you boil them for?
I've got my grey wool skirt as far as having all long seams done for the four skirt-panels in grey wool and the six lining-panels in grey soft-hand viscose. All the lining seams are enclosed French seams, and all the skirt seams have their raw edges bound with 1/4" silver-grey organza ribbon.
I've got the back-waistband on and the buckram pinned. Next i'll make the two side-front waistband pieces, which overlap at the front for the front-fastening, and each go inside the back-waistband, joined inside by a piece of elastic so the waist is constantly adjustable.
The huge pockets are ready - 10-inch squares of wool, turned diamond, with a box-pleat, one corner chopped off and enclosed in an 8-inch pocket-strip, and all lined - so once everything is assembled, I'll work out where they sit best and pin them on, hand-sewing them firmly.
This is the pocket this morning before sewing.

Well catching up tonight has definitely put a smile on my face! The pin board in the guide hut was the same, so full of holes nothing stayed up, of course we always blamed the scouts for knocking things off playing ball games in the hut! tut!
@Laura_Elsewhere much of your skirt description went over my head, but it was delightful to read, it sounds like a lovely project. I do love a wool skirt!
I am definitely someone who put on weight during lockdownluckily the weight wen't back on faster than I grew in size so I'm hopeful of getting back into summer clothes this year.
I finally got my tax return finished today! I hadn't realised quite how knowing it was waiting to be done was affecting me until I sat down this evening I feel so much more relaxed now! So I'm going to start with my evening knitting projects, first up is the second sock from an aldi kit, I knitted the first probably 12 months ago, but never got round to his buddy! I'm thinking that will get me back into the rhythm, the first isn't perfect so it's a good place to start they may be a pair in their imperfectness!
Then I think I'm going to tackle some over the knee socks!I can't remember if I mentioned it here, sorry if I'm repeating myself
...the cold weather last week caused ice to form in the filter on our oil tank, so we were without heating, or the AGA until today when it warmed up just that little bit more. But in an effort to stay warm, I went for layers! And found out my favourite socks, they are only from a highstreet store, but they cost a fortune for socks, and I love them! They are proper woolly socks and over the knee. So the challenge is to make my own! Wish me luck! x
I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....6 -
