ETA: Actually, I can't. They ship to the US or Australia but guess which country is not listed on their website? Yes. The UK is not listed. Another reason to hate Brexit.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.7 -

Good Morning all. This seems like a lovely place to be! Please may I join you? I live in Shropshire with my husband and adult son. I enjoy knitting and have recently started making my own clothes. I have always hated clothes shopping as I am very short and now very dumpy. I love the idea of a capsule type wardrobe of home made, mended and second hand clothes. I hate wasting money and really dislike the fast throw away fashion industry.10

@ShropshireSaver, welcome! I think Shropshire must be the next county over, as so many of us who come to the Village Hall here in Much Mending on the Borrow turn out to live in Shropshire (I'm in Telford)!
I am tallish and dumpy, and in the process of making myself just what you describe: working to retire multiple poor-quality, poor-fitting items to be replaced by a homemade, well-fitting one of good materials...
Have a chair - I think the biscuit tin is around somewhere...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Is everyone watching Eurovision? It's gone quiet today.
I took my dad out this morning to the unveiling and blessing of our new war memorial. It's taken a good few years for it to come to fruition, but worth the wait. My dad had his army medals on his jacket and I was so proud of how he looked. It's a shame my mam didn't live to see it because they were both very keen to see it happen after a lad who lived near us was killed in Afghanistan.2025 Fashion on the ration

Sorry, I meant to say hello to @ShropshireSaver. What sort of things have you made for yourself? You'll fit in fine here. Lots of us are trying to make do and mend, as the Ministry tells us we should!2025 Fashion on the ration

Hi, has anyone knitted with linen? I really like linen fabric but didn't know it could be used for knitting. I am interested to know what it is like to knit with.6

Welcome @ShropshireSaver
There's a veritable wealth of knowledge re sewing, knitting, cooking and all the other wholesome things that we were really put on this earth for.
I'm more of a 'some of the gear and absolutely no idea' type but these ladies (and chaps should there be any or those who identify otherwise) are the absolute bees knees of community
A coupon free purchase to report - a linen type, ankle grazer length button up, what I call Grandad collar, jumpsuit in navy and white stripes. Brand new with tags but purchased via ebay auction so there has been a middle man/second hand
I've been checking out the new village since I moved closer to Much Mending, a few weeks back. Plethora of charity shops I am yet to make it into (thanks agoraphobia) but I've spotted some delights in a window to one on the dog walk so I may have more reports to follow

@MrsCD, I didn’t watch Eurovision this year. I was surprised at the UK’s “Nil point”, because I think the song was really catchy; quite an ear worm, unlike in some years. I wonder if the EU being p*ssed off at the Brits over Brexit had some effect?Liverpool_Anne said:Hi, has anyone knitted with linen? I haven’t knitted with Linen but I know Blacker do a linen-blend yarn, Lyonesse, which is reported to be lovely to knit with. I suspect that a lot depends on how it is spun. Pure linen won’t have much “give”, unlike wool which stretches, but that doesn’t mean it’ll feel like knitting with coarse string.

Hello & welcome, @ShropshireSaver! Glad to see another face in the village hall now I'm resurfacing after trying to catch up, though I must admit I've skipped over a fair bit. Been a little busy on the making-do & mending front...
@Liverpool_Anne, I don't know about knitting, but linen is a bit of a bu88er to spin; you need to keep it damp, or it "slips", & your fingers get cold, but it's a lovely soft but tough thread once done & gives finished garments a lovely drape & a touch of sheen. Have to say that I've only ever spun it with another fibre, like camel or alpaca, though, and the finished yarn went into a woven shawl with lots of others.
