The builders have gone and I have a working cloakroom downstairs.  I just need to paint (will probably start at the weekend) and then it is all done.  Another thing I can tick off the list.  I spoke to them about how far in advance to book the upstairs bathroom and they are already putting people in for the beginning of 2024.  I need to work out how long I need to save so that I can afford it and the bits they will be putting in.  I can then get booked in ready.

Almost the first week done of the new term too.  Time is flying by.

Congratulations on your new cloakroom, which I'm guessing is the US equivalent of a half bath. That is fantastic. Are you planning on remodeling the one upstairs too? I could do without the mess and the disruption but once it's done, it's so satisfying seeing your vision for the house come together. Enjoy.

Thank you @LeighofMar yes I think it is a half bath (smallish room with just a toilet and sink).  I do plan on doing the upstairs bathroom next but need to save for it as this and the gates will have used all that is in my account for house renovations.  I wanted to make sure that we had a working toilet before the upstairs bathroom gets pulled apart in case we are left without a toilet for a while.  We will be removing the bath and putting in an enclosed double shower and slightly moving things around.  It will then be tiled on all of the walls and a better extractor fan to prevent the constant mould problem we have.  I always wondered if we should remove the bath but as we never have them any more due to them using lots of water, and the kids no longer willing to share, it makes sense.  I am hoping all of these changes will make the house future proof if I end up staying till old age.

As much as I am enjoying making the house mine and more user friendly, I do wish I could pick it up and put it in a village somewhere.  I think this will always be in my mind, but for the next decade at least this is where I will be so I may as well be happy here.

Work was very slow today - it has been a quiet work load type week.  No doubt everything will be asked of me and I will be snowed under, but today certainly dragged.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better - early finish for me anyway as it is Friday.

Off to do a little tapestry and then shower and bed

I understand completely. I adore my home and wish I could move it to a different state where there's all 4 seasons instead of being in the South. But there is that saying, "Bloom where you're planted" so we might as well enjoy where we are in the now instead of waiting to be happy. Your upstairs bath plans sound wonderful and will definitely be a nice upgrade.

I like that quote - never heard it before but it makes sense.

Well I feel warn out and not from the work I've done.  DD1 had her driving test today.  I have been thinking about it al day and keeping fingers crossed because to be honest we weren't that confident in how it would go.  I bought her a card while on the school run just in case.  10 min later she texts saying I better look for another test.  I'm like ok we need to think how many more lessons she will need at £75 a go.  We get home and she is grinning.  The little madam was fibbing and had actually passed.  I am a nervous wreak lol.  Anyway we are all very happy now and what a lovely way to start the weekend.  We not looking at cars for her as yet, and really there is no need for it, but at least when we can she will be able to drive.  Another savings pot needed.

Tonight the children have pizza and I have chicken and veg curry.  Then I'm going to have a nice sit down and do some more of my embroidery while listening to

I do get the feeling that things are going really well and we are all happy.  I am still waiting for something bad to happen because it always does.  Will enjoy the happy until then.

Ah thank you @Four_Seasons.  Fingers crossed it all lasts.  Feel like the past few weeks have all been aiming for today and now its done, our time is free and what should we be doing.  Of course there is plenty of painting to be done but that is it.

Got the invoice for the gates this afternoon so will make payment for that tonight.  The fence man said they take roughly 3 weeks to make, which will take us to mid May, when he estimated they would be fitted.  Just in time for my Mum to visit

Fingers crossed indeed @Crazycatlady2.  I think I was more nervous that her at one point.  Thankfully we have a little break before DS will be learning
