What small DFW things will you do this week 21/12/20?

Options

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation.  These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important 😀

  • Morning guys  We are getting spookily close to the big day and also to the end of this year. Hope next is markedly different! I'm working today, off Tues then back in Weds. After that I have a week off  Gotta say I love my p/t hours!

Not much going on today but I hope to:
    * Get time to re-sew hem of dress and topstitch the split
    * put away yesterday's washing
    * TOMM L1s through day and 2 this evening/in my break
    * dinner is LOs from last night. Madam loved it so much and was mmmmmm-ing all through dinner!
    * put next 3 months of shift in new calendar
    * wrap last of gifts. Must do this!

Right better go and get ready. Hope you all have a lovely day x

Morning folks and peaceful solstice blessings to all

@determined_new_ms thanks for starting us off

I've been watching the livestream of the sunrise from stonehenge. I've not done it before and it's cloudy so I couldn't see the sun come up but it's strangely relaxing and compelling. Felt a bit emotional but maybe it's a 2020 thing. I did a lot of genealogy about 15 years ago and I find that at times like this, I like to think about my ancestors (always find myself particulalry drawn to the women) and think about all the strong, resilient people that came before me.

We went to the gym for 6am today. OH has gone back to bed now for his second sleep(!!!) and I'm waiting to join the 9am call for work. We need to go to the butchers and fill the car up and then I want to go to the allotment to pop up a couple of cardboard boxes and toast the fruit trees (apparently it drives evil spirits out). Just in case anyone was wondering, I don't actually believe that there's evil spirits in the trees, but hey, we need all the luck we can get!

Other than that, I'll finish icing the Christmas cakes. I did mum's yesterday so it would dry off in time for wednesday but need to do m-i-l's and mine. I need more eggs though so will pick some up at the butchers. I'm also going to do some studying today. I didn't get any done last week what with my tummy being off and the 2 day headache. Feeling much better now and my order just arrived from Bulk Powders with lots of interesting bits to try and shore up my stomach. I won't take any of the probiotics before Christmas though in case they don't agree with me. I had to buy omega oil in soft gel form though instead of just oil. I hope I can swallow the tablets ok. I am exceptionally bad for being able to do this - I have to do it with food and trick myself.

Oh and I need to speak to the bank because my new card doesn't appear to be working!

    Have a good day all

  • Hi gang,

Thanks for the kick off DNMS. That’s so sweet about LO mmmming over her dinner :)
Gah, CLF, perfect timing... :s Does that mean you’ve got to self isolate? My nephew is self isolating as his pal from footie training has Covid.
Ditty - sounds like the perfect day! :D

Happy winter solstice to you all and hopefully the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn will bring new light to us all! Fingers crossed the clouds part long enough here for me to see it but with the rain I can hear at the moment I’m not holding out much hope.

So...sorted YNAB, all set for tomorrow’s pay day
Dinner from stores today - no take aways :) Funny, my auto correct just made that say ‘Take Always’ - that’s more like it!  :D
Just trying to keep on top of house work so we’re a bit more sorted come Christmas...
Got absolutely loads of work today before I break up  :|

    Catch up soon

I'm not sure whether I need to isolate... we weren't in close proximity to him, and certainly not for more than a few seconds. Having said that, I was closest to the front of the class, although at least 2m away I'm sure.

I'm waiting for OH to wake up. I think our options would be:
    1. Get symptom-free test today and again on Thurs
    2. Suck it up and self isolate for 10 days.

Unless OH is messaged by test and trace - he has the app on his phone so obviously we'll isolate if required

    Afternoon all :)
Thanks for starting us off DNMS :)
Hope you get a negative result CLF - what a nuisance!
Just come back from town - went to post an ebay parcel and deliver some Christmas cards. Walked past Wa*trose and the queue stretched about 50m into the car park. The other supermarkets would have been worse. Didn't bother. I have a delivery from Icyland coming this afternoon, and if we haven't got it after that, we will do without!
Managed a dog walk before it rained. Walked into town despite rain, so plenty of exercise today already. Hopefully the last ebay sale to post this side of Christmas. I use a drop and go account which normally avoids queueing, but with the covid precautions it is not possible to slip through the narrow doorway past the queue in the usual way.
Other than that I have the last few Christmas presents to wrap (will be dropping off tomorrow)
A quiche shell to fill and bake. Will use up ageing mushrooms.
Finished off the last of a tub of hummus and some carrot sticks for lunch - would have been very healthy were it not for the mince pies that followed :#  At least they were only small HM ones, not the massive ones from the packets. The two I ate were probably about the same as one of those. Thinner pastry with no sugar in it, but much more booze in the mincemeat lol.
I still need to move money and pay OH's tax bill :|  Not worried about paying the bill these days (thank goodness), but they don't make it very easy, and I am struggling with motivation to log in to all the various accounts.
  • Ooooo lots of parcels just arrived! OH's liqueur that I ordered finally came so I'm really happy and a magazine that I treated myself to with my birthday money.

We have decided to stay at home today and then tomorrow morning OH will get a test (he also shared a barbell with our coach on Thursday). Decided to wait until tomorrow as if OH has contracted it, it takes a while for there to be enough viral load in your system to show up. On the assumpton that it's negative, we'll check again on Thursday. If negative, we should be ok I think. A few of the others from the gym have been tested today and were negative.

Så what did I actually do got up before 11 (did some writing in bed!) did a bit of tidying up, went and got some gloss for decorating hallway, just in case I get in the mood, went out for a long run in the rain and dark, misjudged distance and weather so it was a but of a wet scary mess alongside a road for the last bit. But I'm back, ready to watch Maleficent and eat dinner that ds is cooking for us.

    Morning folks

OH decided to go for a test yesterday afternoon and it was negative. Assuming neither of us get ill, I'll go for a LF test on Thursday. I was supposed to be in work for a "keep in touch" day today but we decided that given all the circumstances, it would be better for me not to come in.

I have list of various Christmassy bits that need to be finalised over the next three days so I'll be working through them while keeping the laptop open in case work need me to do something.

    Today's things:
    :star: make sausage rolls
:star: put a tag on my great aunt's present
:star: Send OH to the butchers for beef, bacon and eggs
:star: finish icing the Christmas cakes
:star: Make the outer shells for some of the chocolate gifts

    Have a good one all
