You only get the wine if you, amongst other eligibility criteria, download and register the app. As soon as you have done this, you will need the app to log into the VM current account online banking.. It's VM's implementation of Two Factor Authentication.clive0510 said:
Initially I switched because my tsb current account no longer pays interest on my monthly balance. so I went with virgin. I kinda anticipated there may be a few hiccups, but all sorted now. and yes the case of wine will be handy too! so all good.Hasbeen said:
So you did not switch to get the free wine offer?clive0510 said:I thought they were charging me to use the app. so I've now set my data level on my phone to stop once it goes over 250mb. dont need the app anyway. I figured out how to get into my account with out it. so its all sorted now, unless as I say, they move the goalposts, then i shall be looking elsewhere."To get bonus: Open account, then within 31 days: complete a switch (including at least two direct debits), download and register for the mobile banking app, and add £1,000 to the linked savings account (and keep it there until you get your Virgin Wines code)
Minimum monthly pay-in: NoneIn-credit interest: 2.02% AER variable on up to £1,000
Who's eligible for offer: New customers switching to Virgin Money
When bonus is paid: You'll get an email with your Virgin Wines code and details of how to redeem the offer within 31 days of fulfilling the criteria above"

Once you switch to the app for two-factor authentication does the app need connectivity to be able to get the two Factor code or can it be done offline0

yes I know. I did download the app and that was fine. and met all the criteria to qualify for the wine offer. but now I can't access the app because I don't have sufficient data on my phone. used it all up. but it doesn't matter. I all ready qualified for the wine offer, and I can still access my current account. so its not a problem.colsten said:

I have two credit cards with Virgin Money which I could access through online banking. Virgin Money are now closing their online banking at the end of January 2021. They are encouraging you to get their phone app . However you can only access one of your credit cards. I pointed this out on the telephone to be told to put it on another phone!!!0

yes but surely I can still access my current account on line? or does that also have to be done on the app?alpaca_jackie said:I have two credit cards with Virgin Money which I could access through online banking. Yes, current account are unaffected and you can continue to use online banking.clive0510 said:

It is Virgin Money Credit Cards only that are going app only at the end of January.
alpaca_jackie,
That is the most ridiculous suggestion I've heard in a long time. Surely this is not a surprise that some people, however small that number is, will have more than one card. Rather than suggesting a solution that is both ridiculous and creates new problems (OTP for example) maybe they should design an app that actually works properly.0 -
Multi-factor authentication using text messaging simply isn't that secure - hence why they prefer something they actually control.kaMelo said:

Is this going to affect savings accounts or just credit card accounts?0

It is just credit cards atm. Virgin has a load of systems stitched together they can't do a swoop all at once. I am sure they would if they could. I had it with RBS recently, the debit card was useless without the app for online shopping. Once you register on these apps they won't let you go back easily. Every purchase required me to click yes in the app. Without the app you are screwed.
I must say I am surprised given you needed an app to register and meet the requirements of the Virgin house builder saver, they still allow you to login to that account via web. There isn't even an app to login.1
