virgin money account needs app-didn't know.

Hi. after much toing and froing decided to change tsb current account for the new virgin account. what they don't tell you until after you done it is you need to down load the app. which is ok for most of you, but my phone was 10 yr old!. any way long story short, bought a new phone. and its fine.
my question is, is there a charge to download the app, and when I have downloaded it do I get charged each time I use it.
as you can guess I'm not up to speed with all this stuff, so any help appreciated.

it will be depending on how you connect to the web.
If you have a flatrate or a certain data volume - if you don`t exceed this allowance or are on a flatrate - it won`t cost you anything
if not, and also not connected to a wifi etc - then you might get charged

But not by VM but your service provider.
I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.
  • I have a Virgin credit card and was impressed with the security,I needed a  password, passphrase and 2FA via SMS, now this is ending and I must download the app. All the security will be tied to the phone. I will be getting another card with another bank. I know it's paranoia but why wold yu stop people logging onto their account using a pc

Whilst they prefer you to use the app and do everything to convince you to download it, it is not compulsory (not yet anyway) When logging in online, rather than verification via the app you would receive a code via SMS to complete the login. This option is no longer available however if you have used the app.
As others have said, Virgin won't charge you anything for using the app. The only possible charge would be from your network provider for data usage.

It is probably because of the cost and time involved in maintaining another online system (VM have lots) vs the number of customers using it.

They will have costed out how much it costs to maintain the security of the online portal and an app and decided on the latter.

No, they are talking about VM credit card accounts which are to become app only in January.
The current account is not changing, well not yet anyway.

I also have credit card and have been told I must use the app soon instead of my laptop. I have a very old mobile which doesn't have internet access and have no intention of getting one so I won't use the credit card in future. As I have about a dozen credit cards anyway it won't make much difference.
