Wouldn't recommend the app mine doesn't even work to make payments on the credit card side of things.
Payments to other accounts, identified by sort code, account number and optionally Reference, are working just fine in the Virgin Money current account app, which is the app the OP was inquiring about. The Virgin Money credit card app is an entirely separate app and cannot be used to manage the Virgin Money current accounts.
  • ok.  I just logged in and checked everything ok. new current account is up and running and it looks  like everything transferred ok. I hope everything going to be fine, but if after a while it turns out there are charges I didnt know about I shall probably switch again. thanks for the replies.

What charges are you thinking of?
  • I thought they were charging me to use the app. so I've now set my data level on my phone to stop once it goes over 250mb. dont need the app anyway. I figured out how to get into my account with out it. so its all sorted now, unless as I say, they move the goalposts, then i shall be looking elsewhere.

They would say so in the T&Cs. Besides, no bank is charging for the use of their app.

I think it has been mentioned (if not here then in the VM current account thread) that you don't need the app unless you want to benefit from their switch offer. Once you have used the app once, you can't log in online without the app.Though I believe there is a way to de-register the app.

A reasonable assumption but for various historic reasons that have not yet been rectified Virgin products are not integrated into a common architecture.
  • ok. getting to grips with this now. I only have the virgin current account. and thats mainly because it pays me money to use it. they also have a savings account linked to it, so any surplus money can go in there.
my credit card however is with sainsburys, and in a way that also pays me to use it, because I get extra points on my nectar card each time I shop. so thanks for your help with all this stuff. all good now.

So you did not switch to get the free wine offer?

"To get bonus: Open account, then within 31 days: complete a switch (including at least two direct debits), download and register for the mobile banking app, and add £1,000 to the linked savings account (and keep it there until you get your Virgin Wines code)
    Minimum monthly pay-in: None

In-credit interest: 2.02% AER variable on up to £1,000
Who's eligible for offer: New customers switching to Virgin Money
When bonus is paid: You'll get an email with your Virgin Wines code and details of how to redeem the offer within 31 days of fulfilling the criteria above"

Initially I switched because my tsb current account no longer pays interest on my monthly balance. so I went with virgin. I kinda anticipated there may be a few hiccups, but all sorted now. and yes the case of wine will be handy too! so all good.
