The problem, I think, is that banks are a bit lazy when it comes to updating their IT and JaJa's new BIN references (the first 6 numbers of your card) are not on other banks systems, or not flagged as 'active' at least, so balance transfer transactions can't be authorised without some kind of manual intervention by the back end team at wherever bank you're trying to move the balance to.

Problem is many bank staff are currently WFH / sick / childminding.  Least of their immediate concerns you'd suspect to allocate resources to balance transfers.
  • Using the old PO card worked for me too! Thanks!

How long on average has it taken for people to see the credit to appear on the Jaja account? I’ve just done mine using the old Post office card, and Sainsbury’s has registered the transfer, but not showing on Jaja (it’s only happened overnight so not expecting miracles, applied over the weekend).

As for laziness at the other bank’s ends, I’m not sure this is fair. As Sainsbury’s explained to me, there are a selection of providers they won’t/can’t deal with but you have to call in advance of application to find this out. Despite some incorrect information they provided me, Jaja there was no way they could help me at the Sainsbury’s end. I nearly went the money transfer route to sort this out but obviously didn’t want to with the extra charges it would incur. Fingers crossed this works now as it has for everyone else! Presumably it just takes the bank of Ireland a few days to reconcile the accounts?

Given how many customers there are potentially involved in this, now or in the future, maybe moneysavingexpert should put something out on their newsletter as a warning? Apologies if there had been one already, I certainly missed it!

So pleased to have found this thread. Thought I would search while I was on hold to HSBC, calling to find out why I had my balance transfer declined. No longer on hold and about to try the old PO card trick.

Just following up on my post yesterday to say mine went through within 24 hours of Sainsbury’s clearing the balance transfer at their end. Now to cancel Jaja...
  • Hi everyone, I have just received my Sainsbury’s credit card. I hoped I could BT from jaja over and it wouldn’t let me. Having read your posts I used my old PO card to do this. How long does it take to register and are the PO accounts and jaja still linked for this to work? I’m hoping I’ve not done something terrible by doing this but just wanted to get away from jaja.

    Thanks

  • Transfered most of JaJa balance over to NatWest at 0% for 12 months at end of January. Debt of £1800 showed on Feb 1st (NW) but didn't show on JaJa until the 4th but was dated the 1st. Same as my usual DD payments really so didn't panic. 3 more months to go on my JaJa (P.O. 27 month) 0% interest then I'll transfer the rest or just pay it off.
I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.
  • I am also having trouble getting my balance over to Sainsburys from Jaja. Does anyone know where I / we stand with this, as I am due to start getting charged interest in the next month or two. It seems unfair that through no fault of my own (I was ported over from a Post Office Credit Card) I may know have to start paying interest.

I haven't got my old post office card to use that number and dont know anywhere else I can get it from?

If you've made a payment to the card through another banking app, the long card reference might be on the payee details?  Or even on the direct debit details?

    Hi pdej4,
how long did it take to show on your Jaja card?
I managed to do the transfer using old PO card on Tuesday. It’s showing on my Sainsbury’s card but not on Jaja yet?

    Thanks
