  • Glad you’re out! April will hopefully bring excellent things - having the London flat sold and not needing to deal with “friend” will mean a huge weight off your mind x
Debt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167
    Debt free Feb 2021
  • Just read your diary. I'm so sorry your friend is making you move house, with 2 little ones and in the middle of a pandemic. Unbelievable. Sounds more like a frenemy. I'm so glad your London flat has sold, yippee! Fingers crossed you find somewhere to buy very, very soon and you can get moved in and properly settled. I've just put my home on the market and am also looking for somewhere to buy. I'll be following along. Good luck.

  • Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes.  We are absolutely shattered.  DC1 didn't sleep last night so we were constantly in and out of his room/bringing him into ours to try to settle him.  It was hell.  Today we had planned a nice day off with DH but movers ran out of time to move all the garden stuff to his mum's so he's there now dealing with that as they have delivered today.  So we've not done anything for the kids today at all.  DH back at work tomorrow.  Just sucks.  And stuff everywhere as obvs we don't want to unpack too much in case we find somewhere.  And cat not happy being in and as no garden or cat flap, he can't go out at all.  It all just sucks.

Doesn't look like flat will complete this week.  They've asked for a special condition re insurance (which is fine) and when I want to complete but they need 5 working days to draw down funds apparently.  So it's looking like possibly Tues or Weds of next week.  I don't mind so much once we've exchanged, but I would like to complete asap to draw a line under it!

Still nothing come on to buy and spending is just stupid.  But, at least it's 3 days then the long easter weekend and DH off.

@BabyStepper - thank you - I really hope you have the best of luck with your sale and purchase x

Moving house is exhausting at the best of times but it's usually exciting to get the keys to a new home and that somehow re-energises.  Unfortunately for you this is just an interim so there's probably no excitement to counteract the hard work.
Sounding positive on the flat sale though.  It will be such a relief for you to exchange contracts.
Hope the children settle soon and that the cat isn't too put out for too long - not much worse to have around the house than a cross cat 😼
  • @Blackcats - yes, that's exactly is - no excitement because we don't really want to be here and were actually happy where we were (even though we didn't really want to be there either).  We can't even have one of our cars here as only 1 parking space so that's a bit of an issue (though we are storing the other car at DH's mum's).  However, we have decided to treat it like a holiday (or try to!) as we are now in walking distance of the town/all the restaurants.  So we took the DC's for a bar meal last night which was great as meant we didn't have to worry about driving so we could have a couple of beers!  Also was much needed to get us out of the house yesterday and we did feel much better for going out.  Downside was that it was £55......

So today, DC1 is in nursery so I walked into town with DC2 and popped into office to see work colleagues which was nice.  Needed some flipflops - £16 for 2 pairs, and some bits from b**ts - £5.39.  But did resist urge to get coffee and food in town and came home instead (we still had some WR sticky toffee cake here).

Still no certainty on flat completion but looks like next week will be a go.  Got to pick DC1 up from nursery at 4 but going to stay in this arvo other than that as DC2 had jabs yesterday so is sleeping lots so I might try to get a couple of hours too
  • !!!!!! there is now ANOTHER issue with the flat sale - they won't buy without insuring the whole block (2 flats - it's a maisonette) and are liaising with the owners of downstairs.  Thing is, I know that downstairs are just likely to ignore the request - does this mean I'll never be able to sell it?!  I've spoken to a friend of mine who is an MD of an insurance broker to see if he can put a request out to market to get someone to cover it.  I'm just so sick of it now - feels like it has been problem after problem and again, why the hell do they leave these things until the last minute to raise?!  I do wonder if they are trying to delay until the tenant vacates.  I've told agents to put it back on market at midday to keep the pressure on.

DC1 with MIL but coming back at 1215 (help!).  "Friend" is allegedly repaying deposit today but we shall see.  She said she was going to repay it last night but didn't have the details - why didn't she message for them then?  Not sure if it's been transferred yet as need to speak to DH.

Today should be a NSD as basically staying in.
  • Argh thats so frustrating, definitely putting it back on the market is the right thing as it will show them you are serious.

Your purchasers really are testing you to the limit!
When I bought a maisonette in a block of 4 the buildings insurance was dealt with by the leaseholder and costs apportioned to the 4 owners of the flats.
I agree that you deserve a cuppa

Putting it back on the market is definitely the right thing to do. Shows your not messing around and will follow through on your threat to do so. Well done for standing your ground on that.

If it really is only the insurance to get it over the line I’d look at the cost of the policy and see if you can just buy it for a year.
Fingers crossed it all goes through for you!
