Tightening the belts for unpaid leave

  • @Blackcats and @astrocytic_kitten - yes, it is all rather frustrating!  DH appears to have eaten the fondant fancies!!!!!!  And we had no wine last night.  He is walking to pick up DC1 from nursery later so am going to ask him to go back via the garage and get some!

So, still more things they are not happy with today - the late registration of tenant's deposit being one, excess on the indemnity another, and still re my identity.  I just checked out their lawyer on linked in and he trained at a big firm with loads of people I know at, including my ex boyfriend who is head of insolvency there.  !!!!!! if he has any issues re my identity he can speak to about 6 people there who can confirm I am who I say I am!!!

So it continues.  My lawyers are losing the will to live.  I am losing the will to live.  We are surrounded by boxes and I'm grouchy as on meal replacement shakes.

They have sat on the indemnity policy for 4 weeks, only now raising that there is an excess of 1500 and requesting an alternative policy.  My lawyers are telling them to go get their own if they're unhappy but, just in case it is a sticking point, I've contacted a friend of mine who is MD of an insurance company and asked him to get me a quote for one with zero or small excess.

It just feels like we will never get there.

So annoying for you.  I'd like to slap them and it's not even my flat sale 🙀.
  • @Blackcats - can you slap DH for me whilst you're at it? (for eating the fondant fancies?!).

So, am now thinking that a better option might be to delay exchange and completion until 30 April.  Tenant due to vacate on 28th April so, as long as she goes (am going to check with her if she has something else lined up under the guise of "do you need a reference") then I can give vacant possession and deal with the repayment of the deposit myself.  Also nets me an extra month's rent which would be handy as a) pays down the mortgage a bit more, meaning more at the other end b) gives me a bit extra (rent 1225 and mortgage 808.40 - I do pay tax on it, but that is already taken out at source anyway via my work so that's fine) and c) reduces the early repayment fee on the mortgage ever so slightly.  So, if they don't agree to forging ahead as is, I will suggest that I think.  There is obviously a risk on both sides it won't go through if she doesn't go but she has been a very good tenant overall, paying her rent early, so I am hoping no issues.

I may then say that given I am "giving" on that, I won't pay for the indemnity policy and they will have to pay for their own.  That's then two problems solved.  Alternatively, if they want one with little or no excess and it's a higher premium (waiting to hear from my friend), then I may say I'll pay half.

Hoping these two "compromises" will get it over the line, but in the first instance, we've gone back and said no.

DH got some wine on the way home (as he had had a rotten day) which we caned hence I am now up as cannot sleep.

Annoyingly, no pay from work - thought I was getting 4 days.  Have emailed them to check but I think it is that we get paid for a whole month but on 20th of the month, so that means the 4 days was included in my Feb pay packet.  It's ok though because that then means I'll get more pay in August than I thought I would because I'm getting paid from 17th but will be paid 17th - 31st, rather than 17th - 20th.  In some ways actually more handy as we will have to pay September's nursery fees end August and would not have been able to cover those (as it would be for the 2 of them rather than just DC1) from DH's wage alone.  And can still give DH £500 a month towards our expenses between now and then.  So all fine.
  • £62 in M&S, basically on food for the weekend = not good.  Covered DC1's lunches for the week too.  Exhausted after being up for hours in the middle of the night.  DC1 been at MIL's this morning and is now sleeping.  DC2 sleeping but likely to wake soon.  Ended up with about £96 left in budget which hoofed over to savings and that's it now - DH paying for everything from now on until end Sept.  I will pay my half of nursery fees for March as have that cash and will pay my half nursery fees and probs my half of spending/food in August as should hopefully be paid enough for that and give him £500 a month towards our costs between now and August.

Have heard NOTHING re the flat today.  Looks like I need to get an electrical safety check done if it's being pushed into April.  I had thought the new regulations only applied to existing tenancies from 1 April (so wasn't going to bother as was obvs hoofing it off before 1 April) but I've just had a look at the government page and it looks like because I let the tenancy roll over to statutory periodic, I need one now (which I wasn't aware of!).  So, anyway, have emailed the electrician which normally deals to see what cost is and when he can do it.  I don't think I am "technically" in breach as I have had a report (and remedial works) done in the last 5 years, but I just don't want to fall foul so if we are not completing this month I will get it done.

Does just feel like it will never end.  And I am eating rubbish.  It's yummy rubbish, but it's still rubbish!!  I will be better once we move - too much going on at the moment to be eating lettuce leaves.

there's a time and a place for lettuce leaves and this definitely isn't it.  It is probably the time for nice weekend treats from m and s as you've got a busy week ahead.
I think that's a good idea to wait til your tenant moves out as it seems that most of the complication from the purchaser relates to that.
  • So safety check is 150 plus vat.  I do think I had better get it done but going to wait and see what monday brings as he can't do it until 29th anyway, so if we are going to exchange/complete by then, then I'm not going to get it done.  I think, technically, I am probably ok as was last done 3 years ago, and the regs do say every 5 years, but I found the doc from when last done.   and it was recommended it be re-done in 3 years so......

Am up feeling rubbish - had a bbq with family (ok where we are as not in uk so permitted) but there was punch and wine and now feel rubbish and can't sleep.  Ooops.

Spent £42.25 yesterday.  Conscious this is now all from DH's wage so am a bit scared of spending.  We needed to get stuff for bbq as our contribution so got 12 burgers and 24 sausages.  Then 2 x bottles wine (we still have one left), cokes for DH who was driving, then we needed some other bits for the week so a ready meal, cereal and mini eggs (those were obvs necessary).  I do just find living expensive.  And DC1 would not eat a thing at lunch OR dinner.  He had 2 crisps and then someone gave him a calippo! But he played loads with his cousins, was so happy and is now out for the count as is shattered.

Had a long walk with the DCs yesterday morning.  Hoping to do the same today but feel soooooo rubbish!
  • More bl**dy packing - makes me so so cross with my friend - it is so disruptive.  DH also having to power wash the patio.  Surrounded by boxes.  Meanwhile my "friend" is all gloaty and braggy about her life on FB.  I will get over it eventually, just not now.

So we have to pay out 4k on Thursday - 2k deposit and 2k first month's rent.  We have it but annoying.  Should get 1700 back from "friend" however, when she repays our deposit on this place and will obvs get that 2k deposit back at end of this tenancy.  My other friend (whose mum we are renting off) sent through draft lease so have gone back with a couple of changes, otherwise all fine.  She's left the cat off so just need that rectifying and want to pay the rent on 26th rather than 25th as DH gets paid on 25th so just want to make sure it hits his account before it's paid out.  But I think all will be fine.

It's a stressful and expensive time for you.  Hopefully next time you pack up you will be moving to your more permanent family home.  It must be very annoying to see your friend's glossy version of her life on FB - I know you know that it is all for public consumption - perhaps you can avoid it for now.
Make sure you are stocked up on fondant fancies, wine and maltezer bunnies for the next few days .... for purely medicinal purposes 😇
  • @Blackcats - yes, I know gloatbook is all bo**ocks!!

STILL nothing re flat.  I have chased agent AGAIN, TWICE friday and TWICE yesterday but nothing is happening.  It is driving me BONKERS.  Just want to get it sold now and move on with life.

We still have a fair amount of packing to do but it really is stuff which can only be done night before so we just have to wait now.  Nothing in the cupboards as it's all been packed - so depressing!!!

Spent £3.90 last night on milk (stopped deliveries as moving), a yoghurt for DC1 for nursery today and needed a carrier bag.
