Major update- I’ve got funding for my PhD! This is amazing news as it’s taken a fair few years to get to this point, this was my second attempt and I was really doubtful about putting in a third application if unsuccessful again. Meeting with my boss next week to work out logistics as I’ve only just got a new job. I’m really excited but also nervous about the change and feeling a bit of an imposter.

We had an amazing holiday in Norway! It’s been brilliant spending so much time together and we’ve done some really big days out, kayaking, glacier walk, cycling in the mountains and just generally loving the scenery and being stunned by the views. We did have a week of solid rain whilst camping though which was not fun, although meant we had 20+ waterfalls running down the mountain into the fjord next to the campsite 😍 A bit different to my parched yellow lawn.

Financially, this holiday was a biggie, but we’ve been saving towards it for the last few years, and put some of T’s dad’s money towards it too. Overall spend is in the region of £9.5k for the four of us, for 3 weeks, which is pretty in line with what I expected. We did have some unexpected costs (jumping on a train with 4 bikes when on a mountain and the weather turned horrific was not cheap!) and money did start to lose some meaning with the exchange rate and general feeling that everything is expensive so we might as well spend more money 💸

looking to the future, T had a job interview this week which he’s feeling positive about, the timing would be excellent if he’s successful. Either way, him getting work in Sept/Oct would mean drawing less on his savings and getting us back on track with medium/long term finances.

enjoy a lazy Sunday wannabes, I’m about to put out the 4th load of washing today x

    thanks @beanielou @Ms_Potato_Head @AgathaSquirrel, I’m really excited!

First pay packet with new wage has come through. Increase has gone to savings and mortgage, I’m excited to get back on track with longer term goals.

T didn’t get the job and is feeling a bit glum. He’ll keep looking and we’re not needing to worry about money so it isn’t a disaster, but I understand why he is disappointed.
