I don’t know where the T&C’s are filed “safely”.
I didn’t have detailed discussions with the salesman, I avoid that at all costs generally they lack any knowledge of the product, and they aren’t very interested in me when I show no interest in “protection packs” or finance.
If I had asked can I put a roof rack on it I’m sure he would refer to the brochure and say yes.
The car is to replace an Octavia estate with roof bars which I own roof rails for bike racks and a top box.
I believe the cars were built speculatively in China there is only 2 spec levels and 5 colours, no factory fit optional extras. Then their car transportation ship docked in Avonmouth around 25/11/2020.

    So it's imminent delivery...

When did you place the order?

12/10 or the couple of days before, from my credit card statement.
When I last asked about delivery “before Christmas” was the reply.

It's a strange situation. SAIC and MG are anything but transparent. I would hope that your dealer would be reasonable and refund your deposit. It's probably worth having a conversation with them.

I'm personally hoping that the roof will be able to support the occasional 20kg load of my roof bars and canoe. I may try to haggle some other accessories as compensation.

Not sure how much weight a court would place on that disclaimer. The car still has to be what was ordered especially if an item of particular importance.
But is there an actual change in the parts? Or have they merely changed the rating, because of issues discovered in use...?
Who knows. Only a court would be able to decide whether it was reasonable or not. In some ways it doesn't matter whether the parts or the ratings have been changed. The OP ordered a vehicle with roof rails able to perform a certain function. If MG are not able to deliver the same to him then he may well have a case that they are unable to fulfill the contract and he should be refunded his deposit.

That’s alright, I’m fairly sure there is no actual issue with using them. But when your canoe / my bikes falls off, and a car behind takes avoiding action and they end up under the oncoming lorry where do you stand in a court of law on a death by dangerous driving charge when the manual clearly says 0kg roof load.

A car with roof rails that are purely cosmetic seems daft and, potentially, dangerous.

The weight of the roof bars and extra drag must impact energy efficiency.  Presumably more noise as well on the motorway.

Eventually, a future user of the car is going to use the roof bars to take a load without realising that is not safe.

    From that September brochure...

    (My emboldening for emphasis)
My underlining ... how is a reduction in rating from 50Kg to 0Kg an improvement? ;)

I suppose it means that I will have to secure the canoe in such a way that it would remain attached should the roof rails fail.

OP said Today at 12:43PM>> I didn’t have detailed discussions with the salesman,<<
So if did not mention using a roof rack for bikes then, it's thin ice.
Also I would not want to be using racks when the manufacture has said has a Zero limit. Any issue that cause a ins claim and there is going to be trouble.

It seems many manufactures are not going through as much homologation or type approval on cars. As trying to find a EV that has been approved to tow is a major issue.
