Threatening letters from TV Licensing

No one is getting a warrant unless they've been baiting them. Most would be lucky/unlucky to even get a visit these days.

Well I've had a new one, cancelled my license last year, expired early this year, been getting the normal letters threating, misleading since. I even had a knock at the door by one of their salesman, never answered. I did fill in the 'No Licence Needed' form' I know you don't need to but thought I would.

I got an email back giving a reference and any letter I may now receive, ignore. Hurrah, although I may still get a visit apparently.

Suddenly I got an email 'AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN OPENED' expect a visit, despite trying to contact me, I have not replied so now its got serious! (apparently) then 2 weeks later I got another email.

It started with an big red exclamation mark at the top. We have contacted you but you not replied, your licence has been cancelled (what license, I don't have one?) "You are now not allowed to watch TV without a license" (All TV!) This was large and in the centre, then with a big red X's "it is now illegal to record or watch live TV on any channel or service and to watch or record everything on iPlayer. 'Everything' I though was a weird word you use in that sentence, and not 'anything'

Phew I don't do any of that but then 'Go here to pay now'

Reported as Junk and Phishing after reading it. So the letters stop but out of the blue in come the threatening emails which I never had before. Anyone had emails?

They still write to me by name as I had a license up to earlier this year, when will this stop and change to 'Occupier or will I always get them by name?

That does sound like a fake email. Unfortunately, BBC/TVL's literary incontinence tends to lend itself to scammers emulating them.

Your name should disappear from the letters 6 months after it was last confirmed to them. Unfortunately, "No Licence Needed" is one of the ways your details can be captured by them.

The emails are addressed to me with my Postcode so they are coming from them but after never receiving an email and not hearing anyone that has, suddenly after filling in the 'No licence needed' I get emails instead of letters. Seems a new tactic?

Ah, okay. They are always experimenting with new tactics - it's to get maximum effect for their ££s, and to avoid the Public becoming overly familiar with their tactics.

and email is "free" - rather than our expensive and increasingly unreliable Postal service !!

Indeed - and so the scammers' tactics become BBC/TVL's tactics and vice versa. The whole thing goes around and around in a timeless dance of pointlessness.

Letter received from TV Licensing today with a new tactic, at least to me.

The envelope had 2 windows, top one addressed to the Legal Occupier and the second window showed a line from the letter in bold red capitals “Investigation opened into unlicensed property.”

My first reaction was to phone them and give them hell. However, I chose not to as no doubt to register a complaint they would want my name.

How many times am I going to get a letter threatening a visit from their Enforcement Team. I am so looking forward to it.

The letter is being returned to sender.
