We’ve flown First once, mainly to use up airmiles, and from memory the allowance was 8 bags and 140kg between the two of us plus then 4 bags up to 15kg in the cabin... it felt like I should be taking the fridge on holiday with me or something to try and use up the allowance but we were flying out PE (no higher reward flights available) so it stayed at home and we wasted over 110kg of allowance.Ballard said:
On a holiday to the Philippines two years ago I decided to fly business whereas my mate flew economy. On the way back we put both bags through on my ticket so that they appeared on the carousel quickly. Even with two bags I didn’t get to use half of my allowance.0 -
It's a mystery to me too. I don't think I've ever been close to, never mind over, the baggage limit yet every time I fly (but not since FebSandtree said:
I’m still at a loss how you get 23kg of baggage... let alone if you fly a higher class of travel where you get 2 or 3 bags at 23kg each. I’ve been on 4 month holidays and still took about 2 weeks worth of clothes plus a couple of “special occasion” outfits. I dont thing we are taking a different number of pairs of pants just maybe other’s are made of lead or something other than cotton.Ganga said:
Usually enough for three weeks ,not just clothes but toiletries , suntan lotion etc. cannot last 3 weeks with just one pair of underpants

), I see people trying to take the proverbial kitchen sink with them. The last time I flew back from Turkey there were two women in front of me who looked as if they had bought half of the Grand Bazaar with them and were desperately throwing clothes into the bin to try to reduce the weight of their cases. 0 -
I'm sure I've seen those very same women! They had suitcases the size of wardrobes and seemed to have brought every stitch of clothing and every pair of shoes that they possessed with them. It relieved the boredom of queueing watching them scrabble through and bin stuff. 🤣0

I’m disappointed that you didn’t find a way to take the fridge.Sandtree said:

I’ve been to India several times and they seem to like taking lots of luggage including cardboard boxes of various sizes.Doshwaster said:

Over-packing is a competitive sport in India. If flying to/from India, allow extra time for check-in as everyone is always trying to take their life possessions with them plus gifts for their entire extended family.Ballard said:

Would have been funny but not funny enough to pay the excess luggage for on the way out.Ballard said:

Depending on where you want to go certainly look at the other One World carriers if possible... haven’t travelled BA First but it doesnt look as special as some others. I really dont like BA business compared to many other airlines though I think they may have started introducing a new one since I last flew with them.
I certainly made full use of the £250/bottle champagne though passed on the caviar.0 -
I have a companion voucher which I believe restricts me to BA. they aren’t special but they’re decent enough. From what I’ve seen the new business class from BA is a good improvement.Sandtree said:

I flew Lufthansa business to Bogotá last year but due to a medical emergency before takeoff from London we missed the connection in Frankfurt. Several hours and a short flight to Munich later we boarded an Avianca flight. I’m sure that it was good but about six hours of drinking in various German lounges means that I slept for most of it. I enjoyed the Lufthansa flight back though.0 -
It certainly an improvement though the middle “suite” does look a little claustrophobic... still need to manufacture a need and enough miles to book a First flight on one of the middle eastern airlines

I’ve pretty much hijacked this thread now but I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to get reward tickets in around a years time. I don’t really mind where we go but probably somewhere in SE Asia. Malaysia would be good as that’s a country I’ve yet to visit. South America would be an alternative but he’s a vegetarian and in general they’re not known for vegetarian options in that part of the world.Sandtree said:It certainly an improvement though the middle “suite” does look a little claustrophobic... still need to manufacture a need and enough miles to book a First flight on one of the middle eastern airlines
